If you are going to use brushes, buy the best you can afford, as they will have much higher quality bristles than the cheap ones, giving a far better finish.

i use badger hair paint brushes... in the sizes 0.5 to 3....

i also use the Humbrol enamel, the small tins, through dabing the paint brush in the thinners, then in the paint, the paint reamins rather liquid on the brush and flows a lot easyer off the brush.
brush strokes allways in the same direction and as long as possible...

the best trick i have been tought is;  once the paint is dry, spray over with a couple of fine coats of satin varnish, the pigments in satin varnish hide the brush strokes.
if you then require a gloss finish spray over with glos varnish..

the attached photo, and my thread HMS Inflexible has been painted in this way.

Hello, the best brush that I have found is obtained at art shops & they have polyester "bristles" you can get them in a variety of widths, I use the 1inch for final coating, it does help, if using gloss paint, to thin just a little so the paint flows.  Nemesis

Acrylic (rather than enamel) paints also help a lot in avoiding brush marks. They "flatten out" when drying much more than enamels do, and brush marks just disappear! However, they're also less durable + water resistant, so should be sealed with a coat of enamel varnish if used on the hull, especiallly below the waterline.

ive found that instead of buying my brushes at the art shop , a chain of shops called " THE RANGE "  sells packs of reasonable quality artists brushes for around ten pounds , and have a selection of brushes both flat , round and fine so im able to cover all of my brush painting tasks , although for large areas i normally spray paint them , using both automotive & enamel sprays . jon
