Bad News
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:12:41 am »

Bad news about the RFA reaches me this Sunday morning. RFA "Fort George" is being prepared for leaving service in the RFA. This is odd as the 2 older Forts are still around (although not for much longer). And if it's true that 2 of the new "Bay" class are also going to be "disposed of", what'll be left? Admittedly, the RFA will very soon have no customers left, but I very much doubt that there's a "cunning plan" to build/buy replacement ships to eventually look after the eventual deployment of the by then "old" carriers.
How about one of you RN/RFA "watchers" laying out just what's going to go, and what we'll be left with? Could make interesting reading (or not). Bryan Y.

Bryan,
The old spectre of privatisation is rearing its ugly head again.

Bryan,
The old spectre of privatisation is rearing its ugly head again.
Perhaps so, but no matter who "operates" the ships modern conditions and tasks demand the sort of specialised vessels presently operating. BY

Not with Government "Flat line accounting".
Look at the privatisation of the RMAS, cheap and cheerful and some totally unsuitable vessels, but the overriding factor, they are cheapest!!

I'd heard that one Bay class was going which seems a shame as they appear to be very capable ships.

I think the Government's policy on the armed forces amounts to dereliction of duty, they certainly don't seem to have a clue what they are doing.

I had a bit of an altercation a little while ago with someone else on this forum who hadn't thought all this through, culminating in the eventual closure of some training bases. What then? And how long can FOST go on without having ships to process? More unintended consequences? And what about the huge Naval Stores organisation? (My beloved "Stonnery")? The more I yhink about the knock-on effects of all this the more I reckon it will be almost impossible to recover the loss of centuries of experience. Sad. BY.

By the amount of complaints you lot seam to do about your government, your awful education system, the fact you all hate your monarchy, and everything else i care not to mention (im beginning to think you lot are just a bunch of whiners) think it might be best if you got invaded so somin, then at least things might get better for you or at least give you something to actually moan about!

I think you lot need to take a good look around at how bad your lives really are compared to other places and countries before you moan about your lives, half the reason we went to Iraq was to pull the country out of a dictator rule to which many many people lived far worse and still do then other countries i have ever seen, look at the luxury's you have, computers, flat screen tv's a bed for each member of your family clean water plenty of food and you get the $$ benefits from the government.

When i was in Iraq i saw none of this, i watched kids no more then 8 years old carrying 10kg of water walking for miles in bare feet, family's of 6 or more sharing a bed if they were lucky, many had to sleep on dried mud floors or stone, the basic of food thats if they could get to the truck in time, malnutrition was and still is ripe, crimes shootings and bombing are a regular site, no tv's and CERTAINLY NO MODEL HOBBIES!  frankly i think half of you live in another world or your own little one blind to how it really is, think yourself 'blinking!' lucky of what you have!

If your lives are that bad why not stand up and change things that's wot protest, elections & referendums are for, if your not gonna stand up for ya self s then don't complain! I for one am tired of seeing such rubbish posted on a hobby forum, this place is for boating and all things of such nature not political debates!

Yeah I agree with your sentiments, sounds just like how I remember it when I was in Kentucky.

We also dislike the fact that we are in a recession caused by irresponsible AMERICAN bankers issuing sub-prime toxic mortgages and our own greedy selfish bankers buying the rubbish to ensure good bonuses.
We also dislike paying the price in British lives for G W Bush trying to finish the "WAR" that G. Bush didn't have the stomach to finish.
Take a good look at your own country before moaning at our attitudes.
How long ago was Hurricane Katrina, yet the richest, most powerful country on earth cant build a few hundred thousand houses.
I hope we never get THAT advanced.

50mm,
Believe me I would be happy to say that and a lot more to your face.
As I have said in various bars Stateside and a Nuclear Sub crew in Toulon.
But as to destroying our own forum, as far as I know all are still welcome.
But of course if the answers to your own comments are far to hard for your obviously delicate constitution you can just peep in as a guest and no nasty Brit will know.

Hey, hey, hey people!. Let's keep this within the bounds of perceived civilisation,OK?
Mr.55mm, you really shouldn't be sounding off against an entire nation just because you've read "stuff" written by journalists who are paid to be controversial. You have no idea what it's like to live in this country of mine. Contrary to your rather bigotted, and dare I say it, pretty normal reaction by the internationally ignorant people of your huge country. During my last visit to the USA where I toured Utah, Nevada and Arkansas I met many Americans. Many of whom were surprised that I actually spoke English (work that one out). The average American knows one heck of a lot less about the rest of the world than they do about "us". In fact that situation is so bad that I could easily brand your entire nation as being professionally insular.
Geographically you have usurped a wnderful country, and by the lights of the rest of the world have made a right old pigs ear out of running it. Just because your entire nation is built on a sort of military/industrial set up you've become brainwashed into thinking that "might" is aways "right". Not so. Read a bit about your more recent history and perhaps you may get a little inkling why your country is treated with emotions running from scorn through derision to hatred. Might is not right (most of the time), but just trampling over the beliefs and mores of other civilised nations is never going to win you friends.
It's true that "we" are whinging a bit right now. But why? Wall Street influence and financial greed emanating from the USA is why. So wind your bloody neck in. Bryan Young. (British).

Bottom line

Governments can and should legislate to prevent "Insurance/companies" profiteering from the nations unfortunates and disasters.
At the end of the day the remedy is in the Government's hands they choose not to do so.
So it is one big cop out blaming the "companies". Look at OZ, oo, oo, the banks have put up interest rates, Govt response naughty naughty banks, Hello give us a break.

Why would you interfere and waste money in another country until you have put your own house in order.
The billions wasted would have better used tackling poverty, unemployment, housing, etc.

Oh and Aussies aren't whingers we just can't tolerate "rubbish" and taking away money and effort from being spent on Model boating  %) %) %) O0 O0 O0
