Does anyone have any experience of the above radio kit? At £45-95p it seems a snip.

Colin,

Quite a few members of our club have them. Superficially it looks the same as the Giant Cod one which is quite a bit less money, but I could be wrong. As far as I know no-one has had any problems.

Colin. At my club more and more members are buying 2.4.Both giant cod and planet.None have given trouble.Be careful about
buying direct from China as i know one member who wanted a 12 ch 2.4.This proved faulty postage costs to return are high.
buying in england easy to return plus able to deal with importer direct.John

Hi Gents and thanks,

A friend of mine Eagle on the forum has just started in the hobby I was going to reccomend a cheapo 2 channel but looking at this it might be a better way for him to go.

I think the Planet trim is better, and it comes in a smart box with instructions. That's probably better for beginners. It has 4 proportional plus one switched channel. I think it has an LCD voltage display, and runs off 4 AA cells

The GC one has less impressive trim, and comes in a plain box - no instructions. It has 4 proportional channels - you can add a fifth switched channel by attaching a switch to a connector inside, but you are not told about this. It runs off 8 AA cells, and just has a red light which blinks when the voltage is low. It actually has a built-in mixer, but you have to find out where the switch is for yourself...

The big selling point for the GC is the cost of £25.33 for a Tx/Rx combo, and £8.90 for additional receivers, sent from a British importer. http://www.giantcod.co.uk/gianitcod-24ghz-4channel-mode2-transmitter-p-403779.html refers...

The great thing about both is that 2.4Ghz means no fiddling with frequencies....

Someone has the knowledge to open up the 6th channel on the GC 4 Chann set
A mayhemmer has a modified set but is not saying
Even if it is just a switching channel it is worth having

It must be a competition! Giant Cod have two 6 channel combos at £51.99 each, and have just introduced another receiver. Both theirs are hard case ones, but the new one has end horizontal connectors rather than vertical.

Hard to beat £8.90 for a second rx, though. But the Planet has a cheaper set of batteries....

whichever you choose , they are a big improvement on the 27 & 40 mhz sets having no crystals , no clashes with fellow modelers . its also cheaper to buy one of these new 2.4ghz 5 channel sets than a 2 channel 27 or 40 mhz set !

Thanks for all your comments I am glad to see they are positive. I can now recommend a set to my friend and will probably ask for one myself for Chrissie.
