Bluebird K7- 1/24th scale
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:07:57 pm »

Hi All,

I was thinking of purchasing bluebird k7 (1/24th scale) of speedline models. I was just wondering what brushless motor you would all advise for this model?

Thanks

Ben :-))

Hi Ben,
Have you seen this article by Ernie Lazenby in Astec web site  http://www.astecmodels.co.uk/ernies-set-ups-3.htm  Might be of help to you.
I have a K7 to 1/12 th scale from Touchwood with brushless motor  see You-tube   BRUSHLESS BLUEBIRD.

Hi George,

Thanks for your advice. I have read that article which you reccommended. As you have one of these, what motor would you use and where does it come from?

Thanks

Hi Ben,
The motor that I use is from Prestwich Model Center (  http://www.prestwich.ndirect.co.uk/brushless.htm  )
Motor is Bl5- 2845,   2700 kv with 70amp E.S.C although I think that a 60 amp would do, I run on 7 Sub "C"  cells x 4300 mamph  8.4 volt.
But remember my K7 is 1/12 th scale where as 1/24 th is the one described by Ernie in Astec.
I just doubled up on all Ernies dimensions.
I have seen Ernies 1/24 th scale K7 run and it's lightening fast, best of luck,
George.

Hi Ben,
If you read the write up at the part on water cooling he mentions a motor ( 400 ) I can only assume that it's a Graupner 400. which I think can be had from Astec.

Hi Ben,
From what I gather its a 6 volt speed 400, which has a Kv of around 2700-3000. run on 8.4 volts  gives a no load speed of 25000 rpm or so. I would run a 1000-1500 Mah 7.4 volt lipo and a 3500 Kv motor, this will be lighter than the set-up described at the aztec site O0

Use the same 29 mm prop.

or similar.

Hi All,

I have done a bit of research into brushless motors. I have found one on giant cod that is 20 X 40mm and 14 amps. Does the ampage mean anything?

Thanks

Hi Ben,
I am not sure about the motor you mention but I see that you have asked Giant Cod on the brushless motor.
I have one of them and it's rated at 3600 kv and in my opinion it's much to heavy for the 1/24 th scale K7.
Have you had a word with Allan at ASTEC he has all the details on Ernies 1/24 th K7 and I am sure will be able to supply all that you need.
