Holyhead Severn Class Lifeboat 'Christopher Pearce'
« on: November 29, 2010, 05:02:39 pm »

Hi there all, just wondering if anyone has any good close up photos of Holyhead's Severn Class 'Christopher Pearce' ? I'm going to be building and that's the closest one to me. Not doing the internal detail so doesn't matter about that. I'll probably arrange a station visit anyway and have a drive over sometime, make a weekend of it. Just thought I'd see if anyone could help, thanks, Dave.  :-))

Visited the station today. Got loads of photos of the Severn, if anyone wants any drop me a pm. Many thanks go to the staff and crew at Holyhead for making myself and Audie so welcome. I can crack on with the build now, Dave. :)

Some pics of station visit, many thanks to Ray Steadman, press officer for Holyhead RNLI and of course the coxswain and all the crew for showing me around the lifeboat and letting me loose with my camera. Also spotted a few more interesting vessels whilst on our travels during the week. These include RN training ship P163 'Express' (Archer class?) which was at Holyhead too. (I have a load of pictures of same type 'Trumpeter' if anyone wants copies? Taken in Torquay last year). Classic lifeboat 42' Watson (I think) spotted in Bangor Marina. Tug 'Smit Dee' at Holyhead. Dave.  :-)) :-))

It's same type as the one Russ has got HMS Exploit, nice boat as I keep reminding him, and looking at it longingly and sighing loudly... :}

Hi Brian, your Severn looks great. I don't suppose you've got the build instruction disc supplied by Speedline have you? Dave.  ok2

Hi Dave, I have got the winter 2009 M. Boats (Naval & Lifeboat Special) with Terry Small,s Speedline Severn kit review in it,
if that is of any use to your build?

Cheers

Hi John, I've got that one and the Winter 2007 issue with the 1/12 build too, thanks though. I can get a build disc off Adrian at Speedline, most of it can be done from the plans off RNLI and the photos I took at Holyhead anyway. Only bits I need for it are a bow thruster, the 'T' profile aluminium or plastic for the kickboards and a set of decals, (and a big clear space!) ready to go then! Hopefully see you down the lake Sunday, determined to get the Solent wet, it's been sitting around for weeks! Russ has got 2 boats to test out so I'd better bring the pusher tug too!  %) See you soon, Dave.  :-))

Dave
The only disc provided by Speedline was one with assorted pics of the Severn, about half of those were of the engine room and interior of the wheelhouse and some assorted pics of other craft.
There were some written instructions but I'm afraid they're long gone but you're welcome to the disc if you want it.

Hi there Brian, I thought the disc would just have pictures on it. I took hundreds literally when I visited the station earlier this month so I should be ok. Thanks for getting back to me about it though, much appreciated. I'll start a build thread when I get cracking on it, thanks again, Dave.  :-))

Dave
Are you building the Severn from a kit or scratch?

It's a Speedline kit I bought off a friend but has no instructions. I've got RNLI plans loads of photos and info so I should be ok, most of the parts are labelled up anyway. If my mates Tamar instructions are anything to go by I may be better off without them anyway. Cheers, Dave.  ;)

Dave
The Christopher Pearce now has a camera fitted on one of the aerials and I forgot to take a photo of it on my last visit, so if you have a pic of it I'd be most grateful if you'd send me one.
Many thanks

Hi there Brian, here are the pictures I've got that show the new camera fitted on the port side. I now notice I've not got a good picture of it from the front but I remember it looks same from the rear. The lens just looks like a small square mounted in the front of the sphere. Hope these are ok for you, thanks, Dave.  :-))
