radar drive motor

Does anyone know of a really small motor suitable for a radar drive?

Ideally I'd like something no longer than 1/2" - But is there something that small available?

Regards

Yes, there are some small Swiss geared motors in some of the shows, they rotate at 60 rpm on 3 volts.
They are about an inch long and about a third of an inch diameter.
Also doesnt Alistaire at  model Motors Direct have some motors suitable for radars?

Hi Eddy,
I use a solar motor drive unit  (item code no 570-454) from squires in Bognor, its the best ?3.95 ive spent in a long time.
especially as the same product from other traders will set you back a tenner, just because they call it a radar motor. ;D

You could always strip out the motor from an old servo. I suggest that you keep the original servo gearbox and cut off the small tab that prevents full rotation of the arm.

I appreciate the replies guys, thanks.

But a servo motor is too big, as is a Buehler motor or anything that Alistair lists at Model Motors Direct :-(

What are the dimensions on the solar motor you mentioned Jumpin Jack?

Sorry, but I'm really stuck for space to fit this, hence my original message stated 1/2" maximum length - Diameter isn't such a problem, I could probly get away with 1.5" dia, but length is critical...

I recently bought a micro serv for under ?7.00.  Removing the electronics and the stop tab on the output gear should give a small, light motor and gearbox capable of rotating a radar at a reasonable speed.  Or, if you can use a spare channel to control it, just disable the drive to the position sensing pot when you take the stop off the output gear.

i use a tiny electric motor and gearbox that i took out of a LEGO kit,  its red in colour and  15mm x 15mmx 15mm - basically a cube......sadly i dont have any more, but worth a look on say ebay....its happy operating on anything from 3.6volt to  12 volt- the gear ratio is so low geared the increased voltage does not seem increase the output speed  !

Hello,
In a Mobile Phone, that vibrates to let you know a message has arrived, is the smallest motor I have ever seen!!.
About 1/4 inch dia, less than 1/2 inch long.
The motor shaft had a offset weight on it to make the unit shake while running.
They were on sale at a Computer Fair, but dont know which one !.
Check out the phone folk!.

Action Electronics do  aneat motor and gearbox for about a tenner. It will run off 6v 0r 12v depending which resistor is fitted, full instructions included.
