Miniature Brass Screws Source
« on: December 05, 2010, 03:43:02 pm »

For a non modelling project I need some brass countersunk screws about 3/16inch (3mm) long. The Hobbies 1/4 ones are too long. Can anyone suggest a source? Thanks in advance.

Might be worth a phone call to Mark Mulcahy at BA Bolts 01840 770406

He lists a few BA sizes (5,6,9,10) on his website http://www.ba-bolts.co.uk/bolts.html

Accepts small orders, fast turnround.

Are you talking wood screws or machine screws?

I have just ordered some 2 mm. metric brass screws from Modern Screws in Kent.
www.modern-screws.co.uk/contact.htm
They have all sorts and are very helpful.
The only problem is that they seem to have a minimum order of 100

I knew I'd get a decent response. Lots of people to contact now. My local hardware shop is good for most things, but not these. Thanks for all the help, everyone who took the trouble to reply.

Mike,

Lee Valley,  :-)) :-)) good economical supplier for brass screws but they do not sell small self tapping screws.

Do you have a link for small self tapping screw supplier.

In the US, we get brass screws with various head types down to 00-90 size (00 being about 1mm dia, 90 thds/inch), from Woodland Scenics under the Hob-Bits name, available at any model railroad store.
Round head, hex, flat head countersunk...

Pat,

Thank you a very Good range. :-)) :-))
Am also after a supplier of very small self taping metal thread screws for fixing items to plastic, thin timber etc.

Just drill a plain hole and insert the screw which will then cut it's own thread in either wood or plastic. <:( <:(
