Yup, John has closed up for the winter now, and gone back to big smoke to hibernate. Its not bad here. We're missing all the streamers off Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. Barrie and Beeton are up to 100cm with another 15 to 30 cm called for tonight. The usual hot spot of London is well over 100cm now, with more coming.

John, I found this map with an outline of Australia overlaid on one of the USA, which shows the relative size of the 2 countries.

I haven't been to Sudbury since I was a kid, but I found a pic of a postcard.
You could travel across Canada and just visit the "big" things.
Geese, hockey sticks, fish, bears, all kinds of stuff.
http://www.roadsideattractions.ca/tch.htm

A while ago they dismantled it overnight and refurbished the parts, while they were enlarging the Dynamic Earth centre.  People around here joked that they must've just pushed it off its base and rolled it down the hill.

As a kid we used to go to Thunder Bay to visit family every summer. I can remember a lot of the places on that map and a bunch of others... Alona Bay, the immense valley at the Pic River, watching three-foot breakers pile into Old Woman Bay.   I'd like to go back sometime soon.

Just to add to the statistics:- Anna Creek Station is well known as the largest cattle station in the world, covering an area of 34,000 sq. kms (6 million acres). It is still 8,000 sq. kms larger than its nearest rival, Alexandria Station, which is also situated in the Northern Territory of Australia. The largest American cattle station (ranch) is 3,000 sq. kms.

ggeorge sent me this one through this morning. I can say "yes" to pretty well all of them.:

John

If your local Dairy Queen is closed from
September through May,
You may live in Canada.

If someone in a Home Depot store
Offers you assistance and they don't work there,
You may live in Canada.

If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time,
You may live in Canada.

If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation
With someone who dialed a wrong number,
You may live in Canada.

If 'Vacation' means going anywhere
South of Detroit for the weekend,
You may live in Canada.

If you measure distance in hours,
You may live in Canada.

If you know several people
Who have hit a deer more than once,
You may live in Canada.

If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C'
In the same day and back again,
You may live in Canada.

If you can drive 90 km/hr through 2 feet of snow
During a raging blizzard without flinching,
You may live in Canada.

If you install security lights on your house and garage,
But leave both unlocked,
You may live in Canada.

If you carry jumper cables in your car
And your wife knows how to use them (she's smart),
You may live in Canada.

If you design your kid's Halloween costume
To fit over a snowsuit,
You may live in Canada.

If the speed limit on the highway is 100 km/h
You're going 120 and everybody is passing you,
You may live in Canada.

If driving is better in the winter
Because the potholes are filled with snow,
You may live in Canada.

If you know all 4  seasons:
Almost winter, winter, still winter,
and road construction,
You may live in Canada.
(this is my favourite, because how true)

If you have more mileage
On your snow blower than your car,
You may live in Canada.

If you  find -2 ºC 'a little chilly',
You may live in Canada.

If you  actually understand these jokes,
and forward them to all
your friends,
you definitely are Canadian and proud to be.

That's great, I can definitely say yes to those as well {-)
Here's a few more pics

Silver Islet on the Sibley Peninsula was in 1871 the richest silver mine in the world. The old miners houses are now cottages right on the water.

The Split Rock Lighthouse, the highest on the Great Lakes was built in 1909. It's about 20 miles north of Two Harbors, Minnesota.

The best place for lunch on the way to Duluth. :-)
