Hello from Sydney Australia
« on: December 08, 2010, 08:08:02 am »

Totally missed this thread when I joined.
Anyway... I'm 59.... live in Sydney and have raced RC Dirt Sprintcars for 30 years. The last 12 years in the large 1/4 scale size cars... see my posts in " other hobbies and interests".
I belong to the " Sydney Society of Model Engineers".....believed to be the longest continuously operating Model Society in the world. We date back to 1906, yet there is some material that suggests the Society was formed in 1904. Anyway ...we've been around for a while.
The Model Park caters for Tether Cars, 1/4 scale RC Cars, 1/5 Scale Baja Buggies, RC Planes, Control line Planes, Live Steam Trains, Garden Railway Trains, a HO Train Layout, Slot Cars...and has just revamped the Boat Pond , that has been let go for some years.....I think that's all the Sections !!!
With the Pond soon being "sailable" again, I decided to buy a Monsoon 900 and take advantage of the opportunity to do something I have enjoyed watching for many years ... RC Yachts. No racing ...just some relaxing..... sailing for fun after the rigors of dirt track speedway racing! Although...if another Monsoon pops up on the pond...we'll see!!!!!!!
Found this place when when I started do some research on the Monsoon 900. Have used all the tips to get the boat right before the 1st sail... :-))
 See you around the Forum.

Welcome to the forum, Bob. We Aussies are taking over here, there must be over a dozen active now {-) {-)

I have a son and 3 grandsons in Sydney. I have built 2 boats for the boys, electric powered, and when we visit we usually run them in the river in the Lane Cove National Park.

It's a pity that the country is so big (Lake Superior facts) that we cannot all meet at the same time

This is getting to be a 'one upmanship' site.
To all Ozzies, can we let the Canadians get away with this?  >>:-(

On a more serious note is there any event, in the Sydney area perhaps since it is central to Vic. and Q'land, where we could all meet next year?

Is Lane Park the caravan and camping site outside Sydney?

Brian, there is a caravan and camping park in the Lane Cove National Park, in Sydney's northern suburb of Macquarie Park, about 10km (6 miles) NW of the Sydney CBD.

It's shown on Google maps here http://www.google.com.au/maps?q=lane+cove+national+park&fb=1&gl=au&hq=lane+cove+national+park&hnear=lane+cove+national+park&ie=UTF8&hl=en&view=map&cid=1081283275369127696&iwloc=A&ved=0CDkQpQY&sa=X&ei=Dw0ATf-OEpGquwOVp6Uu

The bridge shown in my photo is on Millwood Avenue (Highway number 29) which becomes Delhi Road past the bridge.

Hey Peter,
Thanks for the welcome mate. I know exactly where you take the boys to run the boats. As you can see, I'm in Forest Lodge.....only 20 mins from Lane Cove National Park. Next time you are in Sydney you should bring the boys to the Model Park.....Open to the public on the last Sunday of the month, except December.
I know that you and the boys would have a ball.

Brian, like any big city, travel time is dependent on traffic conditions, but a good run should only take 20 minutes or so. Are you planning to be in Sydney?

Thanks for that, Bob. We are intending to be in Sydney at the end of February, so I will keep it in mind.
