« on: December 11, 2010, 04:10:27 pm »

The Ellesmere Port Spring Trade and Model Boat Show is on, on the 5th. and 6th. March 2011 at the Waterways Trusts Ellesmere Port Boat Museum.  There will be trade stands and club stands.  Sailing will be available to all who wish to put their models on the water and for the experts in our hobby who want to enter their models to be statically judged there will be the David E. Owen competition.
Many of the traders and boat clubs from last year have already indicated their wish to attend.
Space is at a premium so to be sure of a space please let the organisers know as soon as possible.  For Club stands call John Hughes on 01244 811703 and for Trade stands e-mail   :-)[email protected]

Hi all i have been told of a rumour that there will be no clubs at our march show can i just say there are about 15 clubs that will be upset if there is none as i have confirmed at least that amount for this year so far. the reason for my lack of presence this year on the forum is because me mike and john have been building a load more docks for this year and refurbishing a ten foot long model to sail around the waters of the show. photos to follow

thats what we started off with. can i say it has been built to an earth shattering standard credit to the guys that did it 20 years and it is still solid we did not have time to make hundreds of containers so we opted for a simple route which was to make her into a tanker for the time being as she was well weathered i would like to do the same after the show but for now she is all shinny and new.

the third bollard on the left of that last photo is a drop bollard to detatch from a tug after leaving the docks i thought it might be rarther cool to drop the assisting tug once in open water

Steve ,do I have the name correct .  Last year I went and had a look around ,very impressed .But tell me ,there seemed to be a lot of activity ,between the bring and buy ,and the chap up stairs selling almost new models .I Wanted to buy a particular boat ,and said to the person ,I will call back .the next thing ,it was for sale upstairs at a far greater price .Is this the norm ,buy it quick ,or pay more later .Many thanks .

And a few of us from The Runcorn group will be there as always..

Three Knots , just a thought as I never even noticed anyone upstairs (I assume you mean the trade area) selling built models , but might they have seen the model, bought it seeing a good price and then tried to sell it on thought there trade stand ?  I was looking at 1 particular model and spoke about it at the bring and buy area and it was still there the sunday afternoon.

Hello three knots, I have run the ''very popular'' bring and buy for the last 3 years and NEVER had any complaints. PLEASE make it clear that your writing about Tony the Shipfinder General. He is entitled to buy whatever he wants from the bring and buy and as long as the seller gets what he asks, what Tony puts on top is up to him! It's not the ''NORM'' that i sell to him, so your couple of guys are wrong. If you're interested in buying something, get into the bring and buy before Tony and then you wouldn't have to rely on rumours for information and airing them in public on this thread. If I had a penny for all the rumours that are spread in the model boating world, I'd be a rich man!

Hi, The model belonged to a guy called Stev from Manchester, who came down to the Runcorn club. That year we took SS NORRIX, Kevin Grundis steam pilot cutter and the large tanker, named HUDSON SOUND or RIVER, the tanker burn out 3 motors and failed to finish the coarse, it did weigh 240 lbs in the water.  ;) ;) :-))

The following traders have already committed to attending the show:-

BP Mouldings,  Bernard McCall Coastal Shipping,  Cammett,  George Turner Models,  Mac's Mouldings,  Models by Design,  Mountfleet Models,  Reade Business,  Scale Hobbies,  Chris Brown Model Boats,  SHG Model Supplies,  Ship Finder General.

The Component Shop,  Marks Model Bits and Hunter Systems are also due to attend.  I have also been told that S & M Tools will be there but I have heard nothing from them yet.

There are also ten Model Boat Clubs attending to display their models, Many will be on the water.

We also have, this year, a display of radio controlled lorries, trucks and diggers.

There will be a bring and buy sale and also a raffle taking place during the two days of the show.

Garston .I Sent you a letter.but it has got lost .Someone is jumping up the wrong tree .If it was you that I may have asked to hold the price ,then its a common fault .Never ,in this world of economics gone wrong do you ask for a price to be held .You should nt say that a couple of guys were wrong and mislead me .Out side of my work ,I travel alone ,then only have myself to blame for a wrong decision .As for me airing a matter in a public place ,believe me ,this is a huge cause of things going wrong and eventually causing a massive Argument .So I wish you well in your venture at your bring / buy .If I can attend I shall make myself known .PS ,never hold onto a grudge ,it eats you .

Just a reminder any modellers wishing to enter the David E Owen   event at  the EP spring show   that  it is pre-entry  as per 2010 and entries  will close 28th February 2011. The one advantage entering  the David E Owen is the amount of space allocated to  the display of each model .  All models entered are judged to a standard Gold ,silver , Bronze not first past the post . There is also a Best in show award.   In 2010 this accolade went to Stan Riffin with his  magnificent Gambier Bay. Forms are available from   [email protected]

S and M Tools are now attending and we are up to 14 Boat Clubs attending to display their models both off and on the water.  Steve and Mike are working hard on the dock system which this year should be in the top lock nearest to the Island Warehouse and we have a new tow for tuggers to use.  We are also running a raffle during the two days of the show this year which will be drawn one hour before the end of the Show on Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

The Component Shop and S & M Tools will definately be there, unfortunately Mobile Marine Models cannot come due to Bryan being in hospital. I am sure we all wish him a short and successful stay there and hope he is back fighting fit as soon as possible. Best wishes Bryan.
Modelling timber, Scoonie Hobbies, Model Power and Barries Model Lettering are also unable to attend and I have not heard from six traders who where sent the details. A Model World has also said he will not come because he cannot have the space he wants which has also been allocated to someone else, although with increased signage every visitor will know exactly where every trader and club is situated.
