« on: February 17, 2007, 03:51:52 pm »

How big is/was a binacle in about 1880, and what would it have looked like?

I am doing a 1/15 Grand Banks Schooner and need to make something.

Approx size is ok

I would think MINTS is about right. I made mine, 1/48, using as a guideline the average(ish) height of a man at 5' 10" and the fact that the compass would have to be easily visible by the standing helmsman. A quick sketch, roughly scaled, gives an appropriate height.
