Man flu .....
« on: December 22, 2010, 05:48:36 am »

All right, I have a well used cough / cold for a week now and no signs of it easing yet, anyone recommend something to relieve the symptoms?

Hey Martin.

I also have just come off a cold and persistent cough (to much smoking no doubt)

but here's how i cleared it..

10ML twice a day of 'buttercups' cough syrup, tastes awful but WoW does it kick in!

Olbas oil for your nose, then use Vic and Olbas oil over night on your chest  (vic on your chest, olbase on your pillow)

lensip cold and flu 4 times a day.

2 x 400mg (4 times a day) of ibuprofen to take the pains, aches & that dame swollen head pain!

took 48 hours to clear it all and man i felt good  :-)) 'Spacey dude!'

Mmmmm, Man-flu isnt a flu virus, it`s medical name is  "Common Cold" !  Hope the tanker arrives soon, in meantime try a little preventative medicine , straight Malt Whisky with a little warm water and honey O0.

My wife (ex GP) has absolutely no sympathy for man flue sufferers, namely me- Medical knowledge 10/10,  bedside manner 1/10 if I'm lucky.

Hello, an old doctor told me that "If you treat a cold, it lasts a fortnight. If you let it run its course, it lasts two weeks", so drink plenty fluids (water) keep warm in a constant temperature & bobs your uncle. Your body has enough to do without having to deal with the other "cures". Nemesis

Hello, I forgot to mention that if you get Influenza you will then realise why it is the killer it is. It drives me mad when people get the sniffles & say they have the "flu" & the next day are as right as rain, my moan is over.

I agree with the recipe but surely being a Scot you would not ruin a good malt by putting honey and water in it. Personally I think a blend is good enough.

You couldn't be more right, joking aside, I've had proper Flu once and I never want to go there again, two weeks of being to weak to move, throwing up every 15 mins for two days flat and having the honest to God thoughts that being dead might just be nicer than this!

However I recovered 100% (  %) ), it's the elderly in their houses all alone I feel sorry for, and in weather like this it's no surprise we lose so many of our frail population to it. I'm sure I read that it is still the biggest global killer, but it was a while ago and that may have changed?

Until the new cylinders I revel in a cosy wood/coal fire, just as an aside I include a couple of pics of our back garden- more than makes up for the temperature indoors.

Seasons greetings to everyone, hope your not frail yet Martin, we need you  :-))

Martin,

according to a report on yesterday's Telegraph, chocolate is good for coughs (curing them that is). So now is the time to raid the secret stash you were keeping, to give to me for Christmas  {-)

Woa! Hang on a minute lads.
You've got it all wrong, well apart from the malt.
What you really need is a good woman to wipe your fevered brow and pander to your every whim.
That is one step up from having your pipe and slippers waiting for you when you get home fron a hard day at the boating lake.
Play it right and your bout of flue can last for weeks.
Uh.Oh. I've been rumbled.I feel my demise is also iminent

Happy Christmas and new year to all,May your god go with you.

Brian :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
