Navigation Lights
« on: February 19, 2007, 07:35:40 pm »

Hi All

I just thought I would show you my way of making Navigation Lights.

I start off with an electrical connecting block, removing the brass insert.   I then solder a piece of brass 1/32 thick over one of the open ends of the brass insert.

File to a 'D' shape.

then....I refit the two clamping screws back into the brass insert and use them as a means of holding the insert in a vice to cut two slots in using a junior hacksaw and a flat needle file.   After I have cleaned them up, insert the grain of wheat bulb into the open end (check that the bulb is working first).  A little drop of superglue to hold the bulb in place then make the bottom half of the lamp out of plasticard cutting and shaping and glue the base on with superglue.  To make lenses to cover the bulb, I sometimes use a little touch of clear Araldite or a product made by Revell called 'Contacta liquid' - this is normally used for gluing canopies on plastic model aircraft.
