Think were missing a few points here on this topic, does anyone else not think that perhaps that there is more then one person to blame?

First off yup i agree with most, that this act of vandalism is pretty disgusting, but could it have been avoided in the first place? Of course.. why was the boat not locked up in this shed in the first place, leaving the boat exposed to such behaviour from some person(s)? that alone is bad enough that the RNLI was irresponsible in looking after its equipment in the first place!
Where's the CCTV camera in all this, given today's social behaviour it would be prudent to install even the basic of CCTV to at least get a shot of what happened instead of speculation and instant blame against the 'younger generation', don't tell me that public funded projects such as the RNLI can't afford CCTV, im sure that's part of there insurance policy agreement!

There seams to be a lot of speculation that the younger generation did this, most possibly but although i seriously doubt any one under the age of 16 would have caused such damage believe it or not the majority of youths are quite respectful, and to be honest if they lived close by you would think that maybe they know its importance and would dare not harm what could be a life saver to them or others they know.

Believe it or not im quite in favour of the drunk stupid adult who caused this trying to act the tough man or something utterly stupid.......

This mentality seams to show here on the forum as well given some of the comments posted, Ian made some valid points to which it seams some others lack of understanding or actual ability to read, once again has caused friction and drama in the forum , what frustrates me is that just before xmas there was such a nice post from people wishing you well Mr Dicky.... but yet some of your first posts back come with the attitude that there's a bee up your 'bottom'? for what, male dominance, king of the hill (forum) ??

As some one already said 'new year new start', lets not kick off the new year with hijacking posts to have personal digs at each other eh?

I've said my bit couldn't hold in it in any longer enough said!

Mr Roadrunner if you had read this post correctly you would have noticed that these lifeboats are run by Freshwater Independent Lifeboats, which is a charity and not the RNLI. The lifeboats are on show so that money can be raised for the charity. You will also have noticed if you had read the post that there is always someone in attendance as there is a shop on site..
As for hijacking my own post----------come on.
I will send you a PM about the "bee up my bottom"
Enough said.
Happy new year.

Freshwater Independent Lifeboat station (the one mentioned in the opening post) is not part of the RNLI, and like quite a few other lifeboat stations, was funded separately after the RNLI did some rationalising and closed the local station.  The boat was probably not under lock and key because they could well still be saving up for such accommodation.
Trouble is, there is a mentality about that says that it is OK to break anything that is visible, especially anything "official", and very often, this means anything that is not the personal property of that particular vandal.

...eh?  Does that mean you are in favour of the vandalism perpetrated, or does it mean that you agree that it could have been a fully grown person (as opposed to an adult)?

The Freshwater Lifeboats Website: http://lifeboat.p-c-bay.co.uk/

The damage was apparently done overnight, presumably the smaller boat was on a trailer outside. It is a bit isolated at the top of the beach so there wouild have been little problem in approaching and puncturing the boat undetected.

Unfortunately the IoW does seem to suffer from quite a bit of petty crime. It may be a popular holiday destination but there is a very high unemployment rate, particularly in the winter months.

No excuse of course but the Devil makes work for idle hands as they say.

There is only one way to punish people who do this type of thing.

A proper good kicking, then when they get better, another good kicking

and so one for about 3 to 4 years while he is in parkhurst or albany stitching 9 to the inch.

since the world of doo gooders has stopped many punishments for evil crime, idiots will
keep doing this type of thing knowing they will only get a slap on the wrist, or caution to be proud of.

Torture is whats needed, that boat could be used to save lives, its not there as something to look at
it serves a very good purpose.

And i dont suppose it was a young kid, its probably an adult who thinks he,s a tough nut.

phill

Im with you on this Phill.

Never mind turn the other cheek and spare the rod etc, etc. Give them a good thrashing and keep on until they learn doing such deeds will result in continued punishment.

I regularly go out for a run on a saturday and sunday (plus other days you understand  :}) and within a mile of home, there used to be one of the new glass BT call boxes. It was sited next to a main road through the town. Every saturday it would be intact. Every Sunday ALL the toughened glass had been shattered. Next time I'd go for a run usually the following tuesday or wednesday new glass panels would have been fitted. Saturday fine, sunday trashed again!

One Sunday an old guy was phoning BT to tell them it had been trashed again. I stopped and said it was disgusting someone was doing this regularly and nothing was being done.

A few weeks later BT removed the call box completely. All because some little scrote wanted 'a laugh' when he came out of the pub.

Last night we in the uk saw a thing on the news about a riot in an open prison !

The prison is run like a holiday camp, not locking up, just nice rooms etc.
They have sports facilities and can walk around the grounds when they want, and even
go to the local shops now and then.

But what did they do ? they smashed the place to bits and set light to it.  No brains at all.

Now thats an open prison wherethe rules are very soft.
Now they will all end up in normal prison again.obviously they are not learning anything,it needs to be forced
into their tiny brains.
You wouldnt let a dog keep biting you, you train it, and if it cant be trained, then only one sollution. <*<

Society is far too soft in the uk today.   Too many doo gooders

Not entirely the whole story though- guards (all two of them in a 500 person prison!!!) had been turning a blind  eye to alcahol been brought into the prison. This one night they decided to clamp down on the thing that they had previously allowed, with the results mentioned above.

RNLI Public Funding?

Public Donations

A Charity

No HMG funding

And not wanted as you would then need a comittee meeting to authorise a launch.

Most of the independents have a real struggle keeping a vessel seaworthy and safe
to use without spending money on security systems.
Fire appliances now have up to seven cctv cameras to catch vandals when they are on a shout
Ambulances had the satnav stolen
Scrotes CAUGHT stealing lead from a church roof could not be arrested because the did not have
the lead in their hands when Caught

I rest my case

Re: Ford open prison.

These social outcasts (they have been removed from polite society through their own misdeeds) have burned down their own accommodation (supplied by the hard pressed taxpayer). Foolish in the extreme.

OK, it's an act they decided to perpetrate whether drunk or sober.

Now make them live and sleep in their ruined accommodation by welding a steel mesh above the ruins.  Perhaps a couple of years freezing their nuts off and contemplating the stars may bring them to sober judgement. If these individuals have had to be removed from society, then society's rules should not apply to them.

And the only persons responsible for this and other recent misdeeds are the 'Bleeding Heart Brigade'. >>:-(

The problem with sending anyone to prison is that sending them to prison is the so called punishment, (TV, three meals a day, education, sport, etc etc etc all at taxpayers expense)
Heaven forbid, how cruel we were to also make them do hard labour as well as be in prison, shock horror. It was really a failure because they didn't want to go back to prison again.

Prison is no longer a deterrent put them into an old peoples home and see if they like that. >>:-( <*< >>:-( <*<

Really the solution is in our hands, give all your local and non local pollies, from all levels of Govt an earful, might dismiss you offhandedly but if all continue you will prevail.

That is why minorities have organisations and squeal the loudest so that "they" will oil the squeaky wheel. <:( <:(

"honest good men have to stand up lest evil will prevail", there is no such thing as a petty crime it is all the same mind set just varying degrees and should be deterred accordinly. :police: :police:

Because at the end of the day you cannot reason with the unreasonable, that is, the Moron {:-{

The incidents at Ford are exceptional and prisoners within this type of facility are generally considered to be category D or 'low risk'. There were 290 prisoners in the prison at the time and 40 inmates were involved. So far, 8 are now identified as ringleaders. There are 15 open prisons nationwide and serious disturbances are relatively unknown in these facilities till this incident at Ford.

It's interesting that the USA has the highest prison population in the world:

what about the so called immigrant detention centre anear heathrow ?
that got burned out when a riot took place.
and to call it detentioncentre is daft.
They can come and go all day from 8am to 10pm.
The wire fence on the perimiter is to stop other people getting in.

50 inch plasma tv,complete sports facilities including 2 full size snookertables. 4 pool tables, swimming pool
tv video in every room,(they should be called suites) carpet throughout that equals and 5 star london hotel.
Meals on the go all day.

Yet the so called inmates, went on a riot and burned the place out.

There was also another open prison near isle of sheppy that had a riot about 8 years back that caused chaos.

But to go riot in open prison shows mentality of the inmates.

The deterrant is not there, even in normal prison you are allowed games consol in your romms, stereo etc.
A friend of mine came out of wormwood scubs with pics of his and his friends cells.
He said he would never be able to rent accomodation like it, no wonder people go back in.

The uk deterrants are useless, we need a much tougher sentance system on crime.
you can get worse for no car tax than for beating up an old lady.
Beat up an old lady your probably looking at 500 fine and possibly 3 months. so thats 6 weeks inside.

no car tax you loose your car, that could cost anything from 300 to 100,000 plus and a fine ofcourse and points on your licence.

True, but that not the whole story, when a car persistently parked on the double yellow line in front of a shop, the owner complained to a Plastic Police man and he was told:-

That there was nothing they could do as the number plates were false, and as it had no tax disc the owner was unknown...When the shop owner asked why did they not just tow it away...the PCSO told him that it would cost too much money to do that to every car that was illegally parked with no documents...

Moral of the story is if you a law abiding citizen you're easy game ... Ignore the law and your teflon >:-o

I dont think it is exceptional. There have been other instances but even so, one such instance is one too many. Someone has suggested the Prison Officiers regularly turned a blind eye to alcohol being brought into the prison. One report I read said there had been a problem with it being 'smuggled' into the prison. That's totally different to turning a blind eye to it.

As for the US and its prison population, that probably because they dont take any crap from crims and lock criminals up for crimes instead of like we do, for not paying your council tax, tv license and dropping litter.

We dont crack down hard enough on criminals in the UK imo and we are far too soft of them. But that's just my opinion.

The staffing levels are so low in some the prisons, that the staff take an "anything for a quiet life policy" So drugs, booze and phones become quite normal and of course corruption is rife in all forms of public service in the UK nowadays... 130 reams of photo copier paper and Health Authorities buying pace makers for 750 over the odds

IMO Nobody is fooled be the excuses of "the powers that be" statements that this just inefficiency... We all know theft when we see it >:-o

The news the other night had locals who lived in the vicinity who had 'regularly seen cars pull up and drop beer off to inmates at the entrance'- if the locals know about it and the guards don't I would be highly surprised!

Precisely.

That probably explains why the Press uncover criminals before the police can be bothered to investigate. Start point: the Palace of Westminster. %)

I am an ex seaman and I think that people who do these sort of things should not be given the title Moron which indicates a certain mindlessness but doze deserves the title Vandal which indicates a viscous low life who likes to distroy other peoples property and as such, If they are apprehend should not be allowed liberty until the full value + 100% of the boat and or equipment + Full Value + 100% of the time and cost to all people involved in the replacement of the boat and or equipment, and also if the loss of this boat and or lifesaving gear has caused injury or loss of life, they should be held completely and absolutely responsibly ie: loss of life = a Murder charge and the appropriate jail sentence with out appeal .... Much as I would like to see these sort of people keelhauled I think that they should pay completely (In Cash)for the crime as well as be punished  for it ... Any and all goods and or property's should be conferscat ed and if that didn't cover the cost and enforced labour should be applied.
Make the punishment fit the crime ---But first make them Pay in cash

the law in this country seems to be on the side of the villan if us law abiding members attempt to prevent a mindless yob damaging something its us that are likly to be had up in court ! during last summer while out with my partner we spotted three yobs on board sombodys fishing vessel , theyd thrown part of the fishing equipment into the sea and were attempting to un tie the vessel , other people around were just watching them . instead of watchingi phoned the local police who responded within a couple of minuets , they managed to stop the yobs from stealing the boat , but all the police did was give them a verbal warning , which to my mind isnt enough of a deterent ?

You were saying ???

A man who threw a snowball at a police officer faces a second court appearance next week after being charged with common assault.

Dean Smith had been playing with his family when he took aim at the officer. Three days later police arrived at his house, handcuffed him and charged him with common assault. He appeared before magistrates in Derby before Christmas and his case was adjourned until 12 January.

Case of "priorities if you ask me !
