I built an 'Amsterdam' about a year and a half ago.  Don't know why, but was just never 'happy' with it (probably because of all my 'improvements').  It's been sitting sort of in the salvage yard (porch) for almost that long and really looked like it should be salvaged.  So, having finished the last project, not getting very far along on another project, I figured it was time to do something with the 'Amsterdam'.  (Just so happened to have a bunch of 'left-over' stuff from other projects!)
Part of the 'reasoning' was trying to learn how to use an airbrush.  Got the airbrush sort of 'mastered', but how the @#$$ do you mix the #$% paint?!  Oh well.  Another part of the project was to use all the scraps... should have said 'left-overs' from the other things that were cluttering up the work area (neighbors complaining again).  Learned how to piece together balsa, plastics, and reuse old vanity license plates from the car.  After mixing all this stuff together and using a little imagination this is what I came up with.  I think it's a very nice looking "40 footer".  Get any closer than that and all I can say is, "What do you expect from scraps/left-overs?"...

Hi ya Doc,

Can I ask you 2 questions:

Did you enjoy building this out of scrap bits?

Does it give you satisfaction to sail on the lake?

because, if the answer is YES to these two, who gives a monkeys what folk think, even if you are close up to it.? You built it, and personally I think its a brilliant way of recyling materials and after all, that is what modelling is all about.

Its made you happy building it?

Keep on reclycling?

Did I enjoy building it?  Sure.  Out of scraps?  Uh, would have rather had all new stuff, but am too cheap to buy it.  Besides, needed to clean up the place.
There are a few things that still need work.  That's the problem with building/rebuilding something that has hard to reach places.  The control arm on the rudder is visible from above, but getting any thing in there to tighten the blasted thing means making a huge hole.  Maybe I can weld the @#$ arm to the rudder so it doesn't slip.  Also added a bit too much ballast to easily get rid of.  You know, mix a little epoxy to hold all that bird shot in one place?  Ever tried removing stuff like that?  Best way is with a large hammer.  Then seal the broken hull.  Oh well.  It was/is fun so can't complain too much, and I love to complain.  Rats! ...
