Problem with Photobucket
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:25:04 pm »

While trawling the net looking for a picture to illuminate my profile, I was tickled that Google found my Puffer build thread in Mayhem!

I started to look through it (I know it's long overdue for an update!) and discovered that the video clips don't work any more. One gets a message saying "The specified media does not exit" which is not true, they're all still there. There is no problem with the still pictures.

Has anyone any ideas as to the cause of this?

 Hi Corposant,

I had an email from Photobucket to say I hadn't accessed their site for a while, so I tripped over and stuck another picture on it.  (thinking to keep it activated)

I wonder if this is affecting your picture set up ?  Just a thought.

Try reposting one of the old video here now and lets see what happens.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your thought! I have being using photobucket sporadically ever since my first posting of pictures on Mayhem and have not had any communication from the website. It's curious that only the video clips are affected.

Hi Martin,

I think this is the first one from my thread. Perhaps clips have to be on the first page - if that's so, how on earth do you organise that retrospectively?

Regards,

I've found a forum which claims Photobucket changed from using .flv file format to .mp4 in November 2009.

If that's true, looks like a big problem! Couldn't find it mentioned on their website.

A Thousand Mayhem points to Corposant for finding the solution to his (our) own problem!!!!
Your right it is an file extension (video type)  issue! Photo bucket do seem to have converted ALL their stored video files
from .flv  to .mp4 ?!?!?!?

I've just been back through your "Working Puffer Derrick crane anyone?" and changed all the video links from .flv to .mp4 and they all work now!

Martin

Thanks a million for changing all the clips on my thread - must have been a painstaking job!

I see you found the same forum as me, explaining the problem. (I also found another one saying nothing but rude things about Photobucket - and none of them was "stuuuuupid"!).

You've also made me feel even more guilty about the delay in updating the thread - I promise I will add to it soon!
