Broken part - mast to deck bracket
« on: January 30, 2011, 11:27:03 am »

I have just acquired via my father-in-law, a "Star" yacht Comet, 26" with most of the fittings intact; However the bracket connecting the mast to the deck is severed. Any suggestion or is there a supplier of spares?

Picture is of a similar model seen on ebay.

Your picture is difficult to see - but as I recall, the Star mast mounts were simply a 'U'-shaped brass bracket, which should be easily made at home with a bit of brass and a vice..?

The "U" section trough does sound familiar for the smaller yachts.  B&Q might have something similar in plastic or aluminium in their metal bar area.  If so there will be plenty for extra attempts, since it comes in metre lengths.
If its a plate with a collar, a visit to the plumbers merchants area might render a suitable collar, but better than that would be a trip to the LHS.  If the actual fitting is not for sale there, there is brass tube and sheet available, soldering a bit of one to the other is not too difficult, and theres always the extra satisfaction.
