Just been announced by the American Company that they are shutting the Research Dept in Sandwich, Kent. 2,500 jobs going zap there. A disaster for the area, where will specialist workers get other jobs? There has been 6,000 jobs lost in the Medical Research Industry in UK in the last year, You are really slipping , what will happen over the next years, who else will leave the Country? :(( <:(

Who needs enterprise, manufacture or anything of that ilk...Banking,tourism and cheap call centers are all you need in "modern" Britain..Lets face it our top universities are more interested in Medieval history and Philosophy...

Good god why would you want to get your hands dirty making things, just leave that sort of nonsense to the Chinese :-)) ok2 :} :o {:-{

I finished my apprenticeship in 1990, did EITB and City and Guilds in engineering, it has come in usefull many times over the years even though I am no longer in my trade (spray Painting /coach work) but what I learnt back then has given me the knowledge how to do many things from woodwork, metal work (of all sorts) and wiring I fell sorry for school leavers in this modern age where they get the choice of media studies or some other non degree, they then struggle to change a fuse or a headlamp bulb in their cars.
