mfa 850 controller
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:11:14 am »

Hi All,

I have got the mechanical controller for the 850 but no instructions on how to set it up.

I considered using the Tornado 12v 50amp esc but told by one ex seller they had a lot of returns and gave up selling they suggest the MT40.

  Any help on either please

I'm using a mtroniks Viper Marine 20 with mine, seems to work no problem.

The Tornado is i understand a chinese Esc. Of dubious reliability. As already suggested Mtroniks are fine. Also Action Electronics or
electrolize come to mind. All of these can be repaired. Unlike Tornado. John.

If you are going touse a Mtronics then PLEASE go for the 40 amp version,The 850 has a nasty habit of pulling over 30 amps at times.YES before someone points it out they are rated at around 15amp current draw, seen one pull 35 amps on full power !!!!!
A lot of factors can come into play on current draw....Size of boat, size of prop, batt voltage etc etc so go for the biggest the do.......been there had the tee shirt learnt my lesson and THREW the 850's out and replaced all mine for a decent motor the MMB900 wich are now sold by ACTion this motor only draws a max 3 amps on 24v !!!

I run mine with 15 am fuses (notice the plural) 1 between battery and esc and one between esc and motor

  Hi Stavros,

Thanks for the info, should have asked about motors before I bought the 850. Having looked at action I see what you mean about their 900
