simple question and one i think i know the answer to.. but not 100%.
purchased lighting kit from mmm, lost diagram or wiring! 7 lights, 6 leds ,3 resistors.
the part i cant recall is.. how many leds can be used per resistor at 6v and 12v?
also are resistors directional or can i wire either way ?
Appreciate any help

Hi Nige

With LED's it's advisable to have a resistor for each one.  These are tailored for the supply voltage.  The resistors are NOT directional so no problems there.  However,  the LEDS are directional so connect the + ve  to the long wire (via the resistor of course) and the -ve to the short wire

I would suggest you connect a resistor to a LED and supply it with 6 volts to start. Judge the brightness and decide if you want to go up to 12 volts.  If it is too bright then you will need a higher value resistor to Dull it down or else it will burn out.

The parts supplied suggest 3 arrays of 2 LEDs.  In a series array, all (both?) LEDs will carry the same current.
Without knowing the exact parameters of the LEDs supplied, it is difficult to know what numbers to put into the calculator in Rex's link above, but at a guess, if the LEDs drop 2.1 or 2 volts each, and need to run at about 20mA, then on 12 volts the resistor will be about 390 ohms (orange, white, brown) or 470 ohms (yellow, viollet, brown).  If a 6 volt supply, 100 ohms (brown, black, brown).
The link also suggests the appropriate circuit and gives as an option, the resistor colour codes.
Resistors dont care which way round they are connected.  The D in LED stands for "diode", and, since they have very limited reverse voltage tolerance, they must never be connected the wrong way round, as they will protest by dying.

Looking at MMM's list of light kits you should have 7 Brass lamps,4 white, 1red, 1green, 1 yellow +a non working anchor light.
This seems to be the normal set up for the majority of tugs.
As I said before Brian will probably email you a replacement diagram if you give him a call. He is very helpful.
