The boat sails better than I expected. Freesailing models have a charm of their own; the only requirement is that the pond has reasonably easy access to all sides, since your craft may not end up where you planned (due to windshift, or captain error).
My experience has, uniformly, shown me that model squareriggers are perfectly feasible. Freesailers work fine (duplicating Boyle's squarerigger experience of the 1930's). The RC setup for controllable models (a requirement if you don't have the ideal freesailing pond) is not hard if you use the Parallelogram method, and can be accomplished with standard servos (instead of expensive servo winches).
