Colin I assume it is a Torpedo not a Tornado.

If this is so then a 20amp ACTion P80 would do you.

These things are the best ESC's for boats I have used (tried a lot of them including all the usual) http://www.microgyros.com/electronic_speed_controllers.html
Very fine control and buletproof.

This P80 was returned to us on Thursday with a blown switching transistor. It was repaired FOC and returned fully operational on the same day, having first been tested with a Futaba 6EXA 2.4 GHz, a Spektrum DX5 2.4GHz, a Hitec Ranger 3 40 MHz and a P59 RC Master servo cycler. The only thing left to try is a full suppression kit for that Torpedo motor, although it shouldn't strictly be necessary with a microwave radio.

Hi Bob. I have a Spek Dx7 radio i use the Dx7 and MR3000 in the Jules Verne and it works perfect,i can take photos but i dont think that will help with the problem, i have spoke to Dave at Action last week,he asked me to send the P80 back to him and he rang me on Thursday  to tell me the switch resistor was broken and he had fitted a new one,got esc back Friday afternoon and it is no better than it was before i sent it back.
Looking at the wiring diagram for the the envoy etc where the power goes into the esc on the battery side there is good voltage but where it comes out of the esc on the motor side the voltage fluctuates and make the motor run jittery also there is no control of the motor on the left stick BUT you can work the servo on the right stick.
I have spoken to Horizon Hobbies in connection with Tx/Rx and they did some checks over the phone [changing different ports on the rx] and they are convinced all radio gear is working ok.
IMO i think its either that P80 is not compatable with the Dx7 or the esc is not working as it should do but whether Dave will agree with that is another matter.
My friend came last night and brought his DX6i and that responded in the same way as my Dx7 so seeing as Dave as joined in on the thread it could be a gussing game but you cannot get the motor to run from the Tx

it could be a guessing game but you cannot get the motor to run from the Tx

Colin

Hi Colin

Have you tried the motor by itself, direct on a battery ?  Sounds to me as if there is an intermediate short on the wiring system to the motor which would damage any speed controller connected.

Regards

Hi Ken. Yes tried the motor direct from the battery and runs on full throttle treble checked the wiring got my mate to check the wiring everything on that seems ok,my mate tried a car esc last night on the right stick and that would run the motor from the left side and back to neutral ok,another thing i for got to mention is when you connect the P80 up, the motor runs on its own but keeps stopping and starting.

I think to save any further debate that Colin should return this unit and I will exchange it for a brand new one.

Colin,
A problem like this can be very frustrating.
To pinpoint the problem do you have access to another ESC to try and see how that performs.
I do know that some of the DX5's have a wayward neutral point which can cause problems.
But not heard of the 7's having this problem.

Do you have any other models which you can substitute the ESC from.

Yeah - why not? Just ring to arrange. I'll cook you a new one while you watch (you can choose your own fresh components from the tank) and we'll do some cold beers; you bring the beers - I already have the cold..................
The photos shiow nothing amiss, BTW.

Colin

I'm just south of Leicester, and have a varity of ESCs and radio gear which can be tried to establish where the problem lies

If you like to PM me maybe we can get together and investigate?
