Hitec 2RNB and BEC
« on: March 05, 2011, 09:14:30 pm »

Can anyone please help me.  I am relatively new to RC boats, although I built a free plans tug a number of years ago.  I have a Hitec Ranger 27MHz 2 channel which came with a HP-2RNB receiver.  I currently have a SLA 6v battery powering my tug via an ESC, with a separate 4xAA battery box for the receiver supply.  However I note that the receiver says it has a built in BEC.  Does this mean that I can connect the 6v battery directly to the receiver via a switch?  Also what minimum voltage does  the 2RNB require, 5v or 6v?

Many thanks.

You can run the receiver direct off the battery with a switch.
Receivers normally need 5-6volt supply.
However I  run several of my boats on a 6volt battery connected to the receiver with no trouble at all.  :-))

I had problems with this receiver on a 11.1V lipo BEC system and servo glitching.... Not sure what it was but changing to a seperate 4cell RX pack solved it

Probably a poorly BEC.  Glitching/jitter is usually caused by and unstable RX supply causing the internal voltage references to shift with variations in load.

Sounds about right :) as in hindsight the first RX/tx I tried glitched even worse... I put it down to old worn out kit and changed it for a more modern unit which still glitched but nowhere near as badly and as I said was cured with a seperate RX battery pack
