Robbe Koh-i-nor yacht
« on: October 28, 2016, 03:23:59 pm »

I have had a request from a yachty friend of mine who has found the above yacht in his loft that needs help to assemble it.

Apparently there are no drawings or mechanical drive system with the kit.

Can anyone help with the following information please.

1...   size of propeller
2....  size and length of the prop shaft.
3...   Type of motor required.

Thank you for reading.     :-))

Built one for a mate in about 89, added the wing keel bulb from another unknown Robbe yacht, recently did a refurb  (longer boom and a new set of Nylet sails) the longer boom was I believe from the Atlantis courtesy of westbourne models. Mate is a full size yachting type and wanted a more scale realistic sail.
The motor sat in a framework, surrounded by a wooden 'floor' that held esc, rx and battery, lighting control and sail arm servo. (Accessible through the remove able cockpit floor, )motor was a 540 I believe with a two blade prop of around 30mm.
Of course I've been asleep since I did all that, so I might be a bit out.
I will contact aforementioned mate tomorrow to see if he still has the drawings.

Hi Rob.  Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for the delay only I've been in Hospital.  I'll let my friend have the details you've provided and thank you very much for your time.

Cheers

Ken, no drawings left I'm afraid.
If I remember correctly, the motor was on a wooden mount, as far forward as you can reach, the shaft length to suit. 2 blade prop makes all the difference due to the drag of a 3 blade.
Nice looking boat with the wood pack added, but can be out sailed by a bucket with a cricket bat stuck up as a sail.
Nylet has the patterns for new sails now ( with the added 2inches rearwards and a nice curve on the rear, as designed by my mate) which improve things quite a bit on the very skinny sailplan of the original.
Have fun.

My friend is a bit of a yachty chap, but not much of a builder.  He actually sails the real ones.  I went once to sea with him and crew,        but never again.     :}

I can see me motorising this one for him as his aptitude is a little weak on the building side of things and he thought it might be  'out of the box'.

Thanks again
