I went shopping in a place called 'The Range' and found brown and cream card for sale in the artists department . At only £1.20 a sheet. these produced 5 sheets when cut down to A4 size.  (25 pence each for a printer size)

They went through the Canon printer with relative ease and here is the result.  I did some brown ones and one cream one and now will see if there is a colour change when varnished.

The lines are actually very precise, it's only the magnification and reproduction on the film that doesn't reproduce very well.
