Replenishment ships
« on: March 20, 2011, 10:16:44 am »

I'm thinking of building an RFA ship, something like a Rover class tanker or a forward repair ship. has anyone got suggestions on where i can get plans, pictures, and other research material. I may be able to convert a suitable hull if there is one.

Are there any oil rig supply ships or big anchor handlers out there? They would have to look good against the warships.

Ether scale would do I suppose. I'm not sure which scale is more common when it comes to warships.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed an internet article regarding some new naval ships that are being bought for forward replenishment / operations, still RFA though, sad state of afairs that they are to be built by Daewoo, I believe in Korea - cost seems to be a major driving force  :(( , I like the US sealift vessels (Bob Hope being one of them) but even they are under used, after seeing the US peiry program on TV, that ship is badly laid out, requiring a hire crane to lift the supplies on board - go figure, what the UK needs is a UK built ship design that meets all the requirements with a quick load - unload system that shows every one else how it should be done, but what do I know.

With ref to North Sea rig boats, how about RFA Dilligence ex Stena Inspector. As to kits I thought you could get the Blue Rover, some one out there probaly knows about it, Sirmar is back and I think they might have the answer.
