motor advice please
« on: March 24, 2011, 09:32:35 pm »

I'm building a 1/16 scale narrow boat, 5" beam and probably about 3 to 4 feet long. (Only built the stern section so far!) I am fitting a 35mm brass propellor and hope to use a 12v SLA. I'm not expecting it to go terribly fast, and expect that power will be needed mainly astern to stop the thing once it gets going! What motor would people recommend for direct drive, or would a geared set-up be better assuming that not a lot of rpm will be needed to maintain a scale speed? I shall also be in the market for an ESC but I davenitely know where I'm getting that!

A generic 15 volt 5 pole 385 should do nicely.  Just go easy on the throttle for scale cruising, extra power available to relieve panic for either stopping or running away.

Thank goodness, as I'd given up waiting and bought just one of those. VMT.
