LiPo batteries what does 20C and 30C mean?
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:59:41 pm »

Hi, can anyone shed some light on LiPo batteries please.

What is the difference between the two specifications of these batteries? One is 20C/2S and the other 30C/2S

LiPo 7.4V 20C/2S/3600mAh

LiPo 7.4V 30C/2S/3600mAh

Thank you

Put simply, you can discharge the second one at a higher rate than the first.

3.6 amp x 20 times discharge = 72 amp max drain
3.6 amp x 30 times discharge = 108 amp max discharge

Applicable when using out runners on large r/c planes that draw 70 plus amps as opposed to most r/c boats using canned motors drawing between 2 and 10 amp other than those who go in for brushless and lipo powered speed boats.

Depending on your intended use determines the usefulness of this information.

Trust this will help

To my cost, I have realised that you do not run brushless boats on 15c Lipo's...........anything I buy now I make sure it's an absolute minimum of 25c and if I can afford it, 30-40c  :embarrassed:
Don't ask me how I know  8)

As with a lot of other things . Its best not to run at or near the limit. A shortening of life will occur. Lipos
can give far more power than specified. A fuse or two helps. Better a 10p fuse than a batt or esc motor etc.
Good luck John.
