Er well the G3 was a drawing board design that was shelved due to the Washington Treaty but somehow I dont think she was completed and moored in the Tees as the article says.  perhaps the fact the article was written on 1st April may hold a clue!!! But given liverbudgies title of posting I think hes in on it anyway ok2 {-)

Yes, and apart from not building her it was all true. Rodney and Nelson were essentially built to a similar design but with less speed and once the problems with the main armament were sorted out (which took 5 years!) they were formidable ships. Despite being in desperate need of a refit, Rodney took Bismarck apart in short order with a bit of help from King George V which was suffering from problems with HER main armament.

The G3s were a very forward looking design and had they been built would have been invaluable in WW2. The KGV class had a much simpler and less sophisticated armour arrangement and of course an inferior main armament.
