Stabilit Express

I'm about to build a Robbe U47. I know that Robbe recommends "Stabilit Express", does anyone know in the US I can purchase it or is there a equal alterative that will handle the VacuForm on this model with the same durability and is waterproof

Devcon Plastic Welder has simillar properties to Stabilit Express, and smells just as bad..

This might help.

Adhesives may be in tube form (polystyrene cement) or in liquid form such as Humbrol Liquid Poly or MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) which is best applied with a brush. The

technique

is to apply a few drops of the solvent and the glue will run down the joint by capillary attraction. The following glues are recommended:

Fibreglass to plastic: two-part epoxy (Devcon, Araldite, Speed Epoxy) - 10 min. or 1 hour.

Plastic to plastic: ordinary plastic solvent (Revel, Liquid Poly, Slaters, MEK).

Whitemetal to whitemetal: two-part epoxy (5min.) or thick superglue (Pro-Bond, MFA)

Whitemetal to plastic: two-part epoxy or thick superglue.

Wood to plastic: two-part epoxy, thick superglue or contact adhesive.

Brass to plastic: R/C Modellers craft glue or thick superglue.

Rubber Fendering: contact adhesive (UHU, Bostik).

Window glazing: Weldbond, RC Modeller's Craft Glue or clear contact adhesive (UHU, Bostik etc.)

The advatage of Stablitt is it fillets, gap fills, is sandable and drillable. The World is a small placeso dont limit to yourself to purchasing in the US. You can even get in on Amazon.co.uk using your Amazon.com account with a few clicks and no need to input any details.

Try Modelbond gel from http://www.modelboatbits.com/index.php?p=1_283

Key the sufaces a little with sandpaper, and it'll stick anything to anything :-))

I'm building the same boat mate and ended up ordering the stabilit express over the internet just to be on the safe side. I've also got some plastic weld and the devcon stuff, but so far have only used the first two. You'll find this boat takes a fair bit of glue so you'might want to get two to be on the safe side. You'll also find that the setting powder that comes with it makes it like rock pretty quickly too. The reason i say this because it's easy to make mistakes but not so easy to adjust them after the glue's set. :embarrassed: i'm adding my bellows and steering at the moment.
