brass etched deck (for a Darnell U47)
« on: April 07, 2011, 08:50:09 am »

Can anyone tell me if there is a UK supplier of brass etched decks (that would be suitable for a Darnell Type 7 U47) This boat is five feet and four and a half inches long (1/40th?) Any help would be most appreciated :-X

Never seen or heard of one.

OTW do a deck for their 1/32nd scale boat. Modelbrass used to do one for the Robbe U47, Dream Arts still do CNC milled plastic decks for the same boats. Jeff Larue in the USA did decks for the 32nd Parallel boat and for DK models 1/48th Type VII.

The problem with Darnell Type VII variants is that they're a bit more broad across the beam for the Robbe boat decks to fit well.

There is another option. If you're capable of doing your own CAD artwork, you could get a deck laser or waterjet cut.

Thanks subculture for the information, afraid I am unskilled and cad leaves me cold :(( but I may try and have a go with some thin brass sheet, the Darnell deck as is leaves something to be desired

A plasticard deck would be easier to work with and will be lighter too.
