As long as you're enjoying it as well then it doesn't really matter if it takes two weeks or two years, that's my excuse anyway. I managed to add two piceces of plastic to my U-556, the rail tracks inside the tube, 40mm long each. Six hours of sweat and tears, well tears anyway. I'm aiming for Christmas really, hopefully this year, but i don't want to rush myself too much. 8)

Will start the U177 tomorrow,i will spend most of the long weekend on it,I find it very relaxing.I have noted that thy have changed the cast keel to a rolled lead one which leaves a big gap under the r/c plate so i will cut it down and lower it to give me 10 to 15mm more head room and i can tell you every bit helps

Bit more to day fitted rudders, wired up piston tanks and tested all working ok.Fitted tanks relays batt and r/c.will have to remove it all to fit middle deck.

Looks like they have updated that kit a bit. I would be interested to see the wood deck when it goes on, what you stick it down with and if you have to use anything to keep it waterproof.

The instuctions say pour polyester resin in to recess on deck 1mm thick.excess resin should fill every gap thereby ensuring awaterproof seal between the materials.when set the plankiing should be varnished at least 3 times.

A two-pack polyurethane clear coat from a car paint suppliers would be very tough and totally waterproof.

A question about drive trains and shaft sealings: It seems that IX C has a geared drive and LAFF is direct drive. Would LAFF motor get hot due to lack of reduction gear? LAFFAYETTE kit is fitted with simmering for shaft sealing. What about IX C?

I fitted my SCALESHIPYARD's AKULA II with direct drive and shaf sealing same mood than the LAFFAYETTE (like Ramesh did with his) and it tended to get drive motor hot after an hour and a half running. Do you think it deserves time and effort to consider a cooling system?

Nothing wrong with a hot motor. The one in my Lafayette has been there untouched since I built it in 2005 - I am stipping her down to replace all the seals and give it new paint, and after looking at the motor I am going to leave it there for another 6years  :-)
The IX has the pVC tube slid over the shaft to keep the water out. The Simmering you are using is a better solution.

Doesn't the motor/shaft seal holder act as a heatsink?

I am building the drive train as standard i will use PVC tube a grease.As it seems to work well as long as you build as instructed.eg the tubing must overlap the drive shafts by EXACTLY 3mm no more no less!

Had to work today but not a lot to do so did  abit of home work

drilled 3.5mm holes in middle deck and 4mm holes in plate

tap holes in middle Deck 4mm

use aluminum plate as template and drill polycarb 4.5mm

all wingnuts and bolts are stainless steel

only 62 per side plus 4 on deck and 28 on conning tower.Not forgeting the 176 on lower hull.Thy are all now cut just the conning tower floor to do :-))

Made up the polycarb lid today i used 3.8mm oring the 2 orings tack glued to the 2.5x6.3mm strips.I also fitted rubber washers to the bolts and wingnuts.  air test seams ok :-)(blow by mouth air in through breather tube held pressure).hope to water test next sat/sunday :-) :-)

All slots cut started on conning tower.also fitted two deans connectors as switches it WTC lid for Rx and main batteries.
