Charging a 6 volt receiver pack
« on: April 13, 2011, 11:20:14 am »

I want to buy and fit a five cell, 6 volt Ni-Mh battery pack in my Sea Dolphin yacht,
but I am unsure what sort of charger I would require.

Anybody got any knowledge or experience here ?

Would I get away with using a 7.2v 6 cell NiCad pack charger
or would it go bang ? :embarrassed:

Perhaps I might add that I have several chargers already and if possible I don't want to buy another.

That said, I have found a charger on the http://www.component-shop.co.uk/ website
which doesn't seem too painful pricewise!

Universal charger for race packs.

Charges 1 to 10 cell NiCd or NiMH battery packs.
(1.2V to 12V)
Output current selectable at 50mA, 80mA, 120mA,
180mA, 240mA or 300mA
High quality entry-level charger.
Mains 230V UK 3-pin plug.

    £5.99 each.

:(( Oh well maybe I shall have to bin the old chargers to make way for a new one!

From Battery University:
# Use the correct charger for battery chemistry. Most chargers serve one chemistry only.

# The battery voltage must agree with the charger. Do not charge if different.

Looks like you have to buy a new charger for your 5 cell NiCd.

The Fusion NX83 will do the job nicely.
Will charge your transmitter at the same time.

See :-http://www.tantronics.co.uk/acatalog/rc_charger_NX83_TX_RX_Battery_Pack_Charger.html

but available in lots of places for around 10pounds.
