as much as i like mr's  brundle and coulthard, i find it strange that the commentators can rave about how exciting the racing has been this year when the only real action is in the mid field. podium places are pretty well a forgone conclusion.  bring back refuelling stops and one engine supplier along the lines of the former A1GP series. now that was good racing. it was pretty rare for a team to win 2x or more in a row there.

Just as a comment to the snide remark about Poms, ( which refers to the Australians, not the British) Apart from Ferrari and maybe one of the Lotus Teams, all the cars are built in England. Even Mercedes , both car and engine are English. Even the Renault Team is based in England, so really it hardly matters who wins, they are driving an English car....

LOL true about the cars,

In Australia a POM is an Englishman even if they are 2nd Generation born here, If ya got the accent your a POM   :D
and its not seen as offensive  ;)

The term pommy, often shortened to pom or pomme, in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, commonly denotes a person of British (usually of English heritage) origin. A derogatory term, it was controversially ruled no longer offensive in 2006 by the Australian Advertising Standards Board and in 2010 by the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority.  :}

Anyway, back to the subject. The rules may have shaken things up a bit, but the same old faces are still winning. Will Seb and Mark be caught by anyone this year?

Same old faces winning, even when Schumi and Ferrari were on top,
It's for the other teams to catch up, not for Bernie to fiddle with the rules
to make it "more exiting".
He seems to  change the rules for the start of every season.

I must admit that so far this season the races have been more exiting,
is that because of or in spite of the changes ?
My personal opinion is that fuel stops and tyre changes made the racing
more exiting, not in a ghoulish way like just watching and waiting for an accident
but in getting the whole team involved in the race.

I completely agree that the fuel and tyre pitstops were part of the racing, the way the teams managed them added an extra dimension to the race. I would like to see them come back next year but for now we have to put up with the current rules. The question still stands. Can anyone catch them redbulls?

Its the pits stops that rule the racing, get a tyre that will last the whole race, get rid of all the hig-tech crap, then we will have proper racing again, like they did 40 -50 years ago. untill then i would rather watch paint dry.
But being a bike nut out of nappies i would say that!  %%

I've only watched the one race so far this year, but the rule changes do seem to have put some excitement back in, even if you do need an on-board Philadelphia lawyer to tell you when you are allowed to use the extra toys.  At the end of the day, its always going to be the teams with the best combination of engineering and organisation who win, whatever the rules.
The excuse for racing is that it is supposed to improve the breed - I'm uncertain as to the value of flaps in real life.  I am even less certain of the real life value of tyres that last 40 miles.  The rules that limit the number of engines per car per season will no doubt eventually give use road users tougher, more long lived engines, and the forthcoming rules about 1.6 litres and four cylinders and a back-up battery I can see forcing improvements into real cars sooner rather than later.

Yeah. I always thought F1 was about bringing in new technology to improve the racing which would also filter down to road cars. At the moment the rules seem to be stifling the advancements that would come about if the teams were able to do what they wanted with their cars.  I understand the need to make F1 more exciting to bring in more fans but I think you ether like F1 or you don't. I will probably always like it but playing with the rules can turn some fans off.

drop the entry price to the track would be a good way to attract fans. you would nee to remortgage your house to go to the whole event.

Quite right hopeitfloats,wartsilaone,
yet we used to have 2 GPs in the UK and they used to be sellouts.
Silverstone is not ultra modern or fan friendly,
have you seen the queues from the M1 on race weekends ?
But you could still sell the tickets twice over.
Bernie takes the races to where the money and less strict advertising are.
The ordinary fan is low down on Bernie's priorities,
If he can fill the executive suites and grandstands with all the rich and famous I think he's happy.

well that was one of the more interesting monaco races for a year or two.  pity the teams are allowed to work on their cars during the time the race was stopped though. it would have been interesting to see if button/alonso could have passed vettel in the closing laps. bit of a let down really.
