Edinburgh Model Submarine Day
« on: April 22, 2011, 09:37:59 am »

I have just been given the date for this (It was decided late this year.) So a date for your diary.
Sunday July 24th at 11am.

This is open to everyone and is free, courtesy of Edinburgh Model Boat Club. Andrew Gray is the organiser.

It is always well attended by model submariners. The pond at Inverleith park is almost as "sub friendly" as Norwich and is situated very close to the centre of Edinburgh - one of the nicest cities in the world!

So worth making a weekend of in my opinion. (And no I am not a club member etc. etc)

Hi All,

This is one of the next major submarine events on the horizon and well worth attending, in my opinion.

This is hosted by Edinburgh model boat club and all model submariners are welcome but please contact Andrew G the organiser to let them know that you are coming. If you have any problems contacting them via the website, PM me and I will give you Andrew's contact details. (I don't want to put them up on a public forum.)

Lots of submarines, many in Andrews's collection!

See you there!

Thanks for the plug David! I had intended to post a gentle reminder last night but got delayed (blethering too much again) at our weekly Club night. All the plans are now complete for Sunday 24th and we are hoping that there will be loads of visitors. The water levels are well up after last week's floods and you can even see the bottom of the pond for a change!  This event always attracts a lot of interested spectators too so let's hope the weather is OK for a change. We'll have our gazebo just in case. I'll be there from 9.30am and the display tables and the all important tea/coffee urn should be up and running shortly after 10.00am. Parking for competitors is within the park via the Portgower Place entrance.  The street is very short so just proceed up it (past the entrance to the Grange cricket ground) until you reach the entrance to the park at the end. Google shows the map reference as 55° 57’37.17”N : 3° 12’52.89”W.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it.

Sorry to hear you are going to miss out Mark - we'll have to go and get the engraver to change the name on the trophy now.
And we had gone to all the trouble of arranging for the weather to improve from monsoons to a pleasant 19 degrees with sunny spells too!

Let's hope for some good weather on Sunday. It is starting to look a little better in this neck of the woods.

Many thanks to the Edinburgh Model Boat Club for a really good day. The fantastic weather did help and thanks for the prizes!

Bill G's, if I have it right,  beautiful "HMS Storm."

Video of John W's very nifty sub being out through it's paces. (With me asking the idiotic questions!)

A couple more photos and videos, as promised.  I understand from Andrew that there were 45 submarines there. Thanks again to everyone!
