Revell 1:96 Cutty Sark
« on: April 22, 2011, 02:52:46 pm »

this is the Revell 1:96 scale Cutty Sark kit.  I got it from E-bay, in 2009.  everything was in the kit, but the sails were garbage and the decal sheet was unusable.  It took about five months or so to fins a viable set of sails.....first thing I did was put in a missing parts request to Revell.  there are three sheets of sails......I got two of them and the decal sheet.  a while after that I was contacted by a gentleman from Belgium, who was looking for the instruction sheets for the Cutty.  we traded, since he wasn't going to do his build with sails.  later on in the build, I found that the decals I had gotten weren't any good either, so I got one of those decal making programs, and made my own.  I did this after getting the "snub" from a couple of {people} places on the web that makes decals.....I'll never go that route again.

I saw so many variants as for the Cutty paint, that I decided to do it my way.  giving it a nice paint, and embellishing a bit to put more color into it.  I also wanted to do it in a way, so the length of the ship would be a highlight.  the use of a light gray was another aspect I did, rather than use a white, which made a big difference.  the things i have left to do on it are the sheet lines, the braces, and the studding sails.  I have done this ship once before, and the studding sails really gives some width to the build
