It is standard engel kit with a 825mm piston tank.If you want a sub to do what it says on the tin buy a ALEXANDER ENGEL SSBN 616 LAFAYETTE :-))

She looks really good in the water, especially the periscope depth shots.

Trevor a very nice submarine and some nice photographs but I am intrigued as to why she is painted red below the waterline as this is not
standard practice in the US Navy as sub is quite visible operating in shallow depths - did you paint it this colour to be able to see it better in
shallow water.

Indeed, failsafes aren't equipped to deal with heron beaks!

Glad you're please with your new boat.

Geoff, my Laffy is painted in the same colour scheme and so is Ramesh's...the pic below shows the USS Lafayette being built.

This was standard practise, red antifoul below the waterline. This was moved down to the half way line for the reasons you mention. Though a missile boat wouldn't be that close to the surface during a patrol.

Red, yellow or orange are the three best colours to paint a sub if you want best visibility in any pond or pool.

Very good vid Trevor - I see why it is painted bright red now with the colour of that water.
I think I would be worried about getting some of that debris round the prop.

I think the Actioncams will go a lot deeper than that- they're pretty rugged. Manufacturer is probably acting on the cautious side to limit warranty claims.

Should be popping out the 'eye-pod' watertight casing castings for the little 808 keyfob cams this week. This is a small teardrop shaped (think of a chubby Albacore) enclosure designed to house the miniature cameras you can get off ebay which offer up to 720P HD for about 25 nicker. Standard definition cams are well under a tenner, but the HD model is well worth the extra moolah IMO. I've used them extensively on model aeroplanes, as they only weigh about 15 grams. The 'eye-pod' will make them waterproof and as the enclosure is more streamlined than the ATC cams and also has a much lower wetted area, it should work well on smaller models where the ATC can be a bit of a drag- literally. Bang goes the theory, we'll see how it holds up in practice.
