See you there Larry - I will be with my dad in the main hall displaying his card model ship collection...

By the way folks - if any of you are planning to sail your boats on the (not too bad sized) model boat pond during the show, and you are NOT on 2.4GHz, then you MUST come and see me about booking a time slot and collecting your frequency peg. I will be in the main hall at the Shepton Mallet Drifters Card Modelling Section Stand.

I shall be there as it's rather a good show. Plenty of alternative stands and products.

Mostly hovering around Marks model bits stall.    :-))

Hi Larry

No, I shall be going down on Saturday and risking all that Holiday traffic to be first at the stalls.  %)    I get my prop shafts from Mark as well but there's some stuff I need from the model train people  !!!!

Lets all meet up for a lunch break at the pool.

So where was everybody?
What a miserable show this turned out to be, even with all the publicity.
The organisers have been told in no uncertain terms by numerous traders and clubs that if they try the same format next year (over a three day Bank Holiday weekend) then they won't need anyone on the gate.
Liz and I will take some persuading to go back.

not having my car on the road meant i was unable to attend this year , as for it being a three day event even for those camping on site there is very little for non modelling family members to do in the locallity especially if they dont have use of a car ! shepton is like a ghost town on a sunday /bank holiday , the site is good for models being away from houses , but needs more to attract non modelling families to stay for the weekend !

I was going to go this year, but being over the Bank Holiday put me off. I didn't fancy all the traffic. A pity really, because last year I really enjoyed the show.

We really enjoyed the show, it was nice meeting old friends and making new ones....

Note to the organisers...    As my old school teacher said,   "Could do better"      and please move the show back to the original date :-)) :-)) :-))

However, we will be back again next year!!!!

I woke up Saturday with a feeling of impending doom so was unable to motor down. By the time I felt better on Sunday I was getting reports of a very poor show.

Seems the organisers got it wrong this time. Trader were few and Bank holiday Monday brought out the families and not modellers.  :((

HI ALL ,Odear >:-o what a let down where are the traders and also where are modelers the pool display was pathetic the excuse where to windy , {:-{
solve the problem move it in doors theres plenty of room, and the look on the faces of the few traders and club stands said it all , and where the the two boating mags stands ,,
and to pay 10 pound entry for my wife and i was robbery, and with no consetions and time to change the organisers to no how to run a show
,. but its not all gloom the few standS and exhibitors did put on a good show and a big thanks to Dave on action electronics for your advice and help NOW theres a bench mark to copy.
so come on get your act to gether for next year and give the model boaters who are proud to display models witch are some of best in the country a better deal.also the traders a better deal
may be mayem members should be taken on board they no whats what  O0 i have only covered a few of points there are more but i am sure to follow from more who attended the show .....LARRY  W..  DISAPOINTED   :((

Hi all - back from the show. Yes - compared to previous years it was a dissapointment: change of date ment that it clashed with more established shows elsewhere. 3 days was too long - 2 is plenty. Was hoping to speak with a few traders re lathes, tools etc. None to be found!! The clubs put on a good display all round, and yes at times it was too windy on the pond (ask Paul - he valiantly sailed his Finnjet and it nearly came to grief: heeling alarmingly at one point.

The pond is outside for a reason : it is full of gallons of water and is therefore not allowed inside (plus it does leak a tad!!). I know that the pond is inside at Warwick but here it is not allowed. In addition, it has come to my notice that scale modellers seem reluctant to sail their models these days - preferring instead to just display them on tables. My observation only - i wait to be corrected.
Due to the wind all r/c flying outdoors was scrubbed.

This show is NOT a Warwick. Heavy reliance on the general aspect of modelling. Dad and I look on it as purely an event to promote the hobby of card modelling to a wider public. It would be nice if a few more traders were to attend, however I think the show is promoted as a 'general' hobby show only. Joe Public and his kids who know nothing about modelling and r/c will come to a show like this to get a general idea of things, then maybe attend a specialised show such as Warwick to delve more deeply into the hobby.
Let us hope that all is back to normal next year - maybe Martin would like to take a stand for Mayhem and really 'push the boat out' with regard to a model boat display?

Look forward to reading more comments,
Carl

I totally agree with what's been said in the previous postings. I did Sat/Mon with Yeovil Warships and it was like a ghost town most of the time. As to sailing on the pond, it seems as if you are right Carl. I had my Greek tug Doxa on the water 5 or 6 times both days I attended, I know she is a heavy lump and it WAS windy but it was manageable and I got very lonely trundling around the pond on my own. There were a couple of kids with a very small tug and they managed alright. Nice to see you again Mark, I will get a smoke unit from you one day O0 O0.......Tony

Well the previous shows were good and were getting better. Unfortunately, this year the organisers tried something new and it didn't work out (well we all make mistakes sometimes!!), still we hope they will learn from this and they will go back to plan "A" which seemed to work well.

This hasn't put us off and we will be attending next year, with a bigger stand!!!!

I understand it wasnt entireley the organisers fault. Apparently, the venue had double booked the original date with a classic car show, and as the car mob had been going for years the SWMEE organisers had to accept another date - I would guess that they were offered the extra day free of charge in compensation.

Maybe they were naiive in 'giving in' so easily over the original date, but talking with them at the end of the show, the plan is to have it on the 'correct' dates next year - 2 days.

Carl

PS - got some lovely photos of your Doxa Tony - will post some up a little later....
And of a strange looking fella at the pondside with the lariest Hawaiian shirt I have ever seen {-) {-) (mind you, the whole tribe was similarly kitted out on monday - but my camera batteries had gone flat by then!!!!!)

I for one actually enjoyed the show, there was plenty to see (not that I got much time to) and made enough money to have a nice takeaway in the evening {-)
