Research on Shell support ship.
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:56:30 pm »

Evening,

I am trying to find some links/sites for a former Shell oilfield support ship used up to the later 80's, she was, I believe a converted oil tanker from the 60's with super structure in the middle and aft, at the aft was a large helicopter pad on top of the super structure, which extended over the stern by several metres, to the bow were 3 fire monitors.
I have a part name of British ? it was the then sold to shell who renamed it Fortis ?. then sold once more and renamed KITY or KITTY or something similar.

Sorry not much to go on, any help would be great.

Chris,

Are we talking North Sea ops? I worked in the Aberdeen Marine Dept of Shell Expro from 77 to 96 and should know this one if we are.

The "Kity or Kittiwake" you refer to could be Kittiwake Field which used an ELSBM (since decommissioned) for crude export. The ELSBM offtake was to tankers modified to load over a bow connection. Was it one of these tankers you are referring to?

Any more clues?

Hello All,

Sorry I was so vague, I didn't know to much  :embarrassed: I now know it was called the British Kiwi then the Forties Kiwi

She came from Smiths Dock at South Bank on the Tees in 1960.
In 1976 she was converted to an Offshore Support Ship and renamed FORTIES KIWI. She ended her days as KITTY and was scrapped at Alang in 1989.

Many thanks for your help, it is always good to share my complete lack of knowledge and walk out the door with a knowledge rattling in side my head.  :-))
