« on: May 08, 2011, 08:34:34 pm »

Just thought id post a few pics of my latest project, have only just started but comming along
after giving the hull a thorough washdown have marked out the tubes, rudders and trim arrangements
have also started to cut out the flybridge deck, more to follow  any suggestions on motors would be good
fancy a couple of brushless ones but never used them, was going to fit a couple of 850s  otherwise
my first post as well can't be bad must be the sunny weather ;)

Hi
I built a Speedline 1/12th Severn a few years back and installed 4x850's and they were a complete waste of time and money, the boat was completely underpowered and the run time was minimal.
I subsequently installed two scooter motors supplied by Phil Locke and the performance is excellent but I understand that Phil is using brushless motors in his Severn now with outstanding results.
If you need advice about lifeboats contact Phil, he's the expert.

As tempting as it is neil, ive got far too much on at the moment and no space. My next big modelling project is going to be when i move out of my folks place and get my own gaf. Just trying to finish off my crane barge as i start my flying lessons in a few weeks and need to start reading the books!

I'll come back to you in the future when i can get one and see if you still want to part with the beasty.

I'm watching this with interest, the last Speedline Severn 'built on line' was Phil Lockes and that about seven years ago.  Suitable motors at least are no longer a problem!

well, i thought it was, dave............but that build [ unless i'm going doolally ] only goes up to the a frame build.
i'lm sure i've seen a full build somewhere showing virtually everything regarding the speedline build..........had it on favorites untill my hard drive crashed and then lost it somewhere.

as for keeping them out of the water mad mike....no Severn or Trent lifeboat is kept out of water when in service.....the only time you'll see one out of water is when it's being serviced, anti fouled or repaired, and then they are hoisted out with a travelling four post crane lift with strops under the hull. and put on the hard standing at a boat yard..

Tyne and Tamar are, but the Mersey is a carriage launched boat, and it's the "eff see bee" FCB2 SHANNON, Which is to be the Mersey's replacement.
FCB  stands for Fast Carriage Boat.
hope this helps.

The full build was on Phil Lockes website but he has redesigned the site and he might not be putting the build on for a while because it was all done a bit at a time and now it all needs optting on at once as it were. Time is hard to find.
Try model boats mags back issues for the full build in the 99 kit special.
