Billings Fairmount Alpine-Dutch
« on: May 12, 2011, 07:32:53 pm »

 :-)Hello everybody,
Has anybody looked at the new kit from Billings on the above ship. Size as quoted in the writeup indicates that on completion it will probably weigh somewhat heavy.

I am trying to find out  since I am interested in giving it ago.

Howes Models informed me that the kit in its box is about 6Kg.

Many thanks,
Ceres.

Will certainly gain weight when built. Ballest, could be removable, or use built in tanks self filling from pond
with batteries and motors will weigh more. But still not to heavy. When you get to a six foot model, thens
the time to worry. John.

Hi Ceres,

On Fairmount Marine web site http://www.fairmount.nl/index.php/fleet/ship/16

The Alpine has a deadweight of 3568 tonnes which at 1/75 with equate to 8.5kgs = 18.6 lbs

Hope this helps in your decision

:-))My thanks to Johns & Longshanks. I will in all probability give it ago.

I had in mind removable ballast as one alternative, Levelling tanks insitu and filled via the pond sounds very interesting.
Thanks again,
Ceres.
