MY Ady Gil / Earthrace
« on: May 30, 2011, 02:18:05 pm »

Hi All,

Would really like to do a Ady Gil model (not in her current state, obviously) or Earthrace as she was once known. There are some relatively expensive RTR models on "the bay" which I haven't seen any reports on, but if were good a conversion could be done.

I know of a couple of models that have been done, however all threads on them on other forums have decended into flame wars regarding Sea Shepherd's seamanship practices. I'm purely interested in modeling an interesting and unique vessel than arguing the toss over how it was used.

Does anyone have any opinions on the RTR kit, any alternatives, sources for plans and ideas on how a construction, if from scratch, would best take shape?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Alex
My friend Jason has the RTR boat. I will let him know about this thread via his email.

Probably want to go through this thread for scratch building a model of Earthrace.

Somewhere we posted some low resolution plans/hull sectoins of the boat, but I can't seem to locate them at the moment.  :((

Thanks for the replies guys,

Umi, I've had a look through that thread and while its full of great discussion it doesn't seem much concensus was met, I'd love to be able to get hold of that CAD model that was in use though!!

John,
If you could get in touch with your friend that would be brilliant, if I do get some bits made up for it I'll be sure to get some extras and some spare parts may be available...

Alan,
Any and all pics are very much appreciated. I intend this to be as detailed as I can get it, and a long term project for sure, so anything to help would be great.
