Under New Management - Sirmar
« on: May 25, 2011, 11:50:39 am »

In the middle of a storm on Monday night I picked up my latest hull from Barry, who is now running Sirmar and working up to its re-launch.  I will let Barry give you the details in his own time but look out for the new website in about a month.

Anyway the exchange took place on Warrington Bank Quay station and the hull then travelled in some style on a Virgin Voyager to London.

Good luck to the new business.

This photo confirms I am completely nuts!

David,  I'm surprised they let you on the train with something that sized.

Can only wish Barry the best of luck in re-starting Sirmar.

Its HMS Hermes which I am going to build as of 1959 with Sea Vixens and Scimitars.

Not sure of what the price will be when its generally available again.  there should be an announcement soon.

The hull is made for a Falklands version, however the angled deck version wont be hard to convert.  I have already got the aircraft sorted out (see thread on ModelwarshipUK) and the Sea Vixens are already cast along with the Scimitars.  Gannets Mk3 next and then Whirlwinds.

I am fairly sure the only difference between the 'big jet' and 'jump jet' versions of hermes (as far as a hull mold is concerned anyway) would be a 12 degree ramp on the bows.

I know the build well, he has made a really good model.

As far as difference the angled deck was partially cut away near where the fast jet landing system was located to allow a landing craft to be stowed.  There are going to be a few changes but additions not cuts from what I can see.

the hull is really well made with a thickness of over 5mm fiberglass so its tough and rigid.  I will have to decide whether to cut into two. or build as a single unit.  My preference is single unit.
