King Lear Model Boat Club would like to invite model boaters to an event we will be holding at King Lears Lake, Watermead Country Park, Near Wanlip, Leicestershire, LE7 1PD in 2011.
This event is a open sail day on Sunday 3rd July 2011 starting at around 10:00am. This will be an informal event when all model boaters can get together for a free sail. All types of model boats are welcome except IC boats as we are in a Country Park and it is the nesting season at this time of year.
Facilities
There are toilets a short walk from the lake but there are no catering facilities. There is usually an ice cream van on the car park and the Hope & Anchor pub which is close by does good meals but is very popular. Also the Hobby Horse pub does good food which is a short drive away.
What should I bring?
Your boat of course! Wellies! As it's a natural lake it's easier to launch your boat if you have wellies on, especially if the water is low.
Food & Drink - Unless you want to rely on the local pubs, but I'd advise you to bring something yourself instead.
£2.50 for the Country Park entrance.
Location/Directions
The lake is part of Watermead Country Park for those with Sat-navs enter: Wanlip Road, near Syston, Leicestershire, LE7 1PD
For anyone in the UK with valid postcodes the directions will be shown below!
If you leave the M1 at either junction 22 southbound or junction 21a northbound and follow the signs for the A46 towards Newark. At the A46/A607 roundabout (Hobby Horse roundabout) turn right heading towards Leicester. Then take the ramp approx. 400 yards from the roundabout at the Bentley Showroom. At the small roundabout turn left and follow the road along until you come to the T junction. At the T junction turn left and follow that road to the roundabout and go straight on at that roundabout. You will have a large lake on your left and the Hope & Anchor pub 50 yards up on your right. Keep on that road and just before the road turns right you take the sharp left turn into the Country Park. Here you pay £2.50 to enter the park and follow the road through the Country Park until you get to the large car park and you will see King Lears Lake straight in front of you through a large gate.
