RFA "Gold Ranger"
« on: March 03, 2007, 12:26:05 pm »

This is "the big one". Just under 8ft long and 120lb. Other boats know to keep out of its way now.
This class was built during 1941 (5 of them). I chose "Gold" because she was shorter than the others and (just) fitted the
trailer. Again, the whole top lifts off to make placing the batteries and ballast easier. I don't know if you can pick it out on the photos but as an "anti-aircraft" device, the funnel is offset to port, the mainmast central and the foremast offset to starboard. Quite a difficult build this one, which would not have been possible without the superb service  got from the archives of Dundee Council. I'll try to put a few more detailed photos on the next note. It looks like I am taking over the column...but some of you asked to see the ships. Bear with me, only 4 more ships to go!

It is really nice to see an RFA vessel, these seem to be completely ignored by the model manufacturers, even plans are difficult to get hold of! Great model.

You have a gorgeous ship there! The detail is top notch and the plating adds character.
