Charging An Acoms Techniplus Transmitter.
« on: June 19, 2011, 07:47:17 pm »

Hi!  I have an old Acoms 2 channel transmiitter ( model AP - 201 ) which works fine. I am using 8 x rechargable  2900mah AA type batteries in and of course have to keep taking them in and out every time to recharge. I notice there is a charging jack in it but i don't know if the centre pin is + or minus. I have a brand new Fusion Vector AC/DC charger with connectors for either + or - centre pin. So my question is what polarity is the centre pin and what rate should i charge at, ie  0.5,   1,   2,   3.5  or  5. Allso do you have trhe transmitter switched on while charging or off. Regards, Dave.

Dave,

Here goes with the beginnings of answers to your questions

Hi!  I have an old Acoms 2 channel transmiitter ( model AP - 201 ) which works fine. Centre pin is traditionally positive, and it would be possible to check this on the transmitter, but I believe that all Japanese transmitters fit a diode which prevents easy checking of connections from the outside.

Charge at c/10 for slow charging, for about 14 hours , definitely with the transmitter switched off.  The nearest you have is 1/2 amp and this should take about 6 hours FROM FLAT

To check the polarity of the charge plug EITHER
Wait for a Mayhem expert to give the exact answer or
Take the back off your Tx and check the connections to the batteries

Hope this helps
andrew
PS I have an Acoms upstairs - I will have a look next time I pass

Looking at the little label on the bottom of mine, just by the charge jack, the diagram says that the centre pin is positive.

Thanks for your help guys, i actually found the jack diagram inside the transmitter ( where the batteries go ) and not on the outside of the casing. Yes you were both right, the centre pin is the +   .Once again, many thanks, regards, Dave.
