Pipework
« on: June 21, 2011, 08:05:33 pm »

Hi  Gents,
I`m building a freelance tug in1/32 scale for my son and I`m looking for scale pipework for the water feed pipes to the fire monitors.
The pipework itself is`nt the problem, its elbows I need to route it round the superstructure.
I`ve tried to bend styrene tube but it always collapses, even when filled with fine sand etc.
Any help or advice would be most welcome.

I had the same problem on my fire rescue tug.

If you fit a copper bar inside a short piece of plastic tube  (close fit)  then with a little heat from a gun you can bend it 90 degrees.  This will make an L shaped piece for you to plumb on to your pipes.
Note :-  this pipe must be the next size up to the original pipes diameter so as to fit over the ends when you link them up.

Hope this helps

Would cutting the pipe at 45 degrees and making a mitred joint work.

Other angles, greater or smaller than right angels could also be made.

Hi When I need bends and elbows for pipework I look in the Aquatic /fish tank shops for the fitting that they use for the air pipes.   :-))  Geo

Hi Brian why not use 1/8 copper pipe the stuff the steam guys use, its soft and bends easy.
