Blue Flue "Helenus"
« on: March 04, 2007, 05:00:08 pm »

A proper "deep sea" ship. I always felt envious of the Blue Flue family style. Ben Line styles were all over the place.
This lovely one by Willy Carpenter is at 1:96 and took him yonks to build.

Lovely model. I always thought Blu Flue and Glen Line had very similar styles

Blue Flue had one of the best traing regiems when I did my time and even put thier lads through thier own training during the summer and they lived in thier own appartment block!

Rumour had it at the time that Blue Flue ships had the course lines inked in on their charts - as opposed to 2B pencil - and the routes were away from normal shipping routes (except for the obvious bottlenecks eg Singapore Straits) I know you never seemed to see much of them at sea. True or not  ???

They were, but I believe (could be wrong) that the Glens were motor ships and the blueys were steam (at the time).
Both arms had a Dutch offshoot. I imagine this was because Indonesia was then called the Dutch East Indies. BY

Hello Bryan, was this model built to my plans in Model Boats many moons ago?

Actually Blue Funnel and Glen had a mixture of steam and diesel

Here's one my Dad built from the Model Boat plan. It's on display on HMAS Castlemaine.

Cryptic, Martin! have you got him confined?

Such messages just intrigue us nosey ones, better to give a little more explanation.

I had reason to point out to a Forum Moderator very recently, that making a modification or censoring a message without telling us grown ups why has the effect of implying we are not all equal Members of this Forum and there are things we are not allowed to know.

I do not need a long, complex explanation, just a couple of words. Probably you Martin (as Owner of the Site) can do as you like but I think Moderators should say something like "Deleted as pornographic" or "Modified because aggressive".

Hi Roger,

Have you been on holiday?

We now have a few more moderators on board to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.
No one can make any changes to any posts without a message appearing at the bottom of the post giving name, time & person ( as below), not even me - we don't need anything underhanded on here. Also, all moderations, changes, additions and removals are all recorded automatically by the forum software. I've also asked the guys to make it abundantly clear when posts are Moderated or Removed, (in blue), but why is also a very good idea.

Thanks Roger, go to the top of the class!
