Masonary Paint
« on: March 05, 2007, 03:19:38 pm »

B&Q and similar DIY shops sell test pots of sandtex exterior masonary paint, get the smooth non textured variety, its waterproof and tough, can't be sprayed brush only i'm afraid, but does make a good sanding sealer/undercoat plus at a £1 for a coffee mug sized can its good value, it can be watered down for staining and weathering as well (watered down terracotta makes for a good rust stain) plus you can mix it to come up with your own colours. I've painted my VIC coaster with it, see attached

Thank for that Richard, The only problem is the fact that as a beginner I built it from 12mm MDF and 4mm Plywood so the damned thing weighs 55lb all up....makes for interesting launching at times.. but the weights good for ice breaking as shown in the photo (just).

Hi 'Ghost in the shell'

The model is 48" long x 14" beam, the hull is of simplified construction ie flat bottomed, the shelves of the hull are from 12mm MDF, the outer skin is 1/8" (3.15mm) marine ply. The Wheel house is made from UPVC fascia board and the funnel is sink tube. My favourite is the cowl vents which are made from SMA baby milk scoops bonded to a cardboard tube from a roll of FAX paper, this is then faired in with P38. The boat is powered with a scrap wiper motor from a ford escort and uses two 12v 7ah gel cells one for the motor and one for the cooling pump (VW screen washer) and the internal lighting system (a 12" strip light from a caravan). Apart from a few stanchions and the odd piece of dolls house gear bought by my family the whole boat is built from recycled scrap.
