Films shown on board were always regarded as a 'Good Thing' provided by the Company via Walport Films and exchanged between ships by 3rd Mates who knew that their future popularity depended on getting something previously unseen.
I can recall only one film emptying both houses before the end of the first reel and that was 'Love Story'; the biggest load of over-sentimental, mawkish, saccharine, overblown waste of film stock known to mankind. Yech!!!
In contrast, 'Paint Your Wagon' was shown over and over until everyone knew the words and it became a beery singalong success with a massed maritime choir.
